National Pet Day Holiday Ideas
It’s National Pet Day. This pet holiday takes place annually on April 11 and honors our furry counterparts. For some pet parents, it’s a day to celebrate their cats, hamsters, fish, birds, lizards, and whichever animal has joined their family. For Alpha Paw parents, it’s all about our dogs on this special day!
Dogs are always happy, whether you’re coming home from work or taking them for a walk. They provide us with companionship and unconditional love. So it’s no surprise that we have a holiday to celebrate our furry friends.
A Holiday Origin Story
National Pet Day was started by animal lover Colleen Paige in 2004. Paige, who is also the founder of National Dog Day and National Cat Day, created National Pet Day as a way to raise awareness of the plight of homeless animals and to encourage pet adoptions. While the holiday is primarily celebrated in the United States, it has also gained popularity in other countries. Each year, pet owners take to social media to share photos and videos of their beloved animals. And shelters throughout the country hold adoption events to help find homes for
Spend More Time With Your Pooch!
One of the best ways to celebrate National Pet Day is to simply spend more time with your pet. Dogs love companionship, so take them for a relaxing walk, play some extra fetch in the park, or just cuddle up on the couch for a movie night. If you have to work or run errands during the day, try leaving them with a new chew toy to keep them occupied.
Throw A National Pet Day Party
Dogs are a man’s best friend, and what better way to celebrate National Pet Day than by throwing a party for your furry friend? There are plenty of ways to make the day special for your dog, and here are just a few ideas. First, start by decorating your home with pet-themed decorations.
You can even make your own dog-shaped balloons! Then, prepare some special treats for your pup, like doggie biscuits or Puppychinos (frozen yogurt for dogs). If you’re feeling really adventurous, you could even try making doggie ice cream. For the main event, arrange a play date with some of your dog’s friends. This is a great opportunity to socialize and have fun at the same time.
Donate To the Local SPCA
One of the best ways to celebrate National Pet Day is to simply make a donation to the local SPCA or animal shelter. There are so many animals in need and places like these help care for and house our furry friends until they can find a forever home. Donations are welcome year-round.
