YesMeet Rekishi (A209205)! Rekishi is just one year young and looking for a loving home at the shelter. Rekishi was adopted from the shelter as a kitten and is much loved, but he did not get along with their resident cat. With people he is a sweetheart - he just wants to be with you all the time. Rekishi likes to lay on you and is quite the cuddler, but he is not really a lapcat. He is shy and slow to trust new people, so he needs a patient adopter who will nurture him and give him time to feel comfortable and develop trust. In no time, his beautiful personality will blossom and you will have a best friend for life. Because Rekishi is a sensitive kitty, he would prefer a quieter home without young children, but this can depend of course on the situation.Rekishi likes to be with you as much as possible, whether it be on your computer when you are trying to work, or nestled between your shoulder and the headrest on your chair. The minute you touch him he gets so excited for your attention and will roll onto his side and purr. Rekishi is playful and goes crazy for his toy bird with the feathered tail (which his guardian will leave with him). He carries that toy all over the house and likes to leave it in his mom's bed as a token of his affection. Rekishi loves interactive play with wand toys and will drag the toy around the house if you let him (note: wand toys should not be left out as strings and feathers can be chewed which can cause a GI obstruction). Rekishi has not been around dogs so he'd probably prefer a home without, but it can depend on the dog, of course. Rekishi is not a fan of being held or brushed. He is very gentle and has never bitten or scratched, but his guardian did used to play with him with her hands and when he was a kitten so sometimes when you pet him he might give a little nibble and want to play with your hands. It's important to re-direct him to toys if he does this and give the petting a break for a minute.
Adoption Process
Adopters fill out a 2-page questionnaire, interview with a staff person, and pay the adoption fee. We are in the process of transitioning to "open adoptions" with few formalized requirements. The full adoption fees are approximately $160 for dogs and $110 for cats, but we have regular 'specials'.
