YesMeet Gilbert, an absolute loveable hunk of a kitty, who is approximately two years young and looking for a loving home at the shelter. Gilbert came in to us as a stray with a bad case of mange, which he is now healing/recovering from. Gilbert has never met a person he didn't like and he will mooch attention and pets from anyone. He is a big hunky boy who you just want to hug. Gilbert has a happy-go-lucky purrsonality and thinks life is just great, but he prefers the company of people and can't wait to find his forever home. Gilbert will make your most loyal, friendly, affectionate companion. He just wants to rub against you and purr. Gilbert is FIV positive which he got from being bitten by another cat. It is only contagious to cats through deep puncture wounds so as long as the cats gets along, they can live together just fine. FIV is not a big deal in that he can live a long, healthy life with it, but it can cause immuno-compromise, which is probably why he came in to us with mange. Despite this, he has healed incredibly well and quickly and he is doing great and just wants a loving home. We do not know how Gilbert is with dogs, cats or young children, but depending on the situation he seems pretty adaptable. He hasn't shown any negative reactions to the other cats he's seen at the shelter, but he would need a very slow, gradual introduction to another cat to see if they could get along well together.
Adoption Process
Adopters fill out a 2-page questionnaire, interview with a staff person, and pay the adoption fee. We are in the process of transitioning to "open adoptions" with few formalized requirements. The full adoption fees are approximately $160 for dogs and $110 for cats, but we have regular 'specials'.
