The Humane Society of McCormick County, Inc.

The Humane Society of McCormick County is a no-kill animal rescue. We pick up homeless cats and dogs in McCormick County and help them find loving homes. We offer low-cost spay and neuter to any cat or dog in the County and we a have a progressive trap - neuter or spay -and return (TNR) program and we monitor and feed several community cat colonies every day. We are 100% funded by private donations, grants and money raised through fundraising activities. All money raised goes to helping animals because we are all volunteers. The county does not have a city or county-run shelter. We are all our county has for help with homeless cats and dogs. We care for the dogs and cats that would otherwise have no other place to go.

Meet Obie

Obie, aka Bentley is a sweet guy who came to us with an injured tail which is completely healed with a slight bend to it.  He is an active kitty who loves to play with his doggy friends, in fact he prefers hanging out with the dogs and may think he is one!!!! When it is nap time he prefers his foster mom’s lap.  Bentley has a favorite stuffed toy…a small flying squirrel that he carries everywhere even to bed at night!  Sometimes he thinks he is a flying squirrel and jumps on and off the furniture.  Bentley will keep you entertained!  At night, he snuggles with his best buddy,  the dog.  Bentley is a gray tabby, with lots of stripes everywhere except his dotted belly and green eyes.  He has a birthdate of  7/8/2024, up to date on vaccinations and neutered.  Bentley is looking for an indoor home with older children due to his activity level, toys and perhaps a dog buddy.

Adoption Process
Our adoption process starts with an interview. We want to know what type of cat or dog they are looking for, their lifestyle, and their expectations. Then we set up a meet and greet either at the shelter, a pet store, or at their home. Then they fill out an adoption contract. We offer and encourage potential adopters to take the dog or cat home on foster-to-adopt for a few weeks before finalizing the adoption. Our adoption fee is $65 for cats and $125 for dogs which included spay or neuter and vaccinations and for dogs, it includes a microchip. Cats can be microchipped upon request.
