About
Meet Urban
Urban is a dear boy who came to the shelter as a feral in April/May 2024 and it was clear from the start that he was very fearful of humans. He was taken into foster by a shelter volunteer (myself) to see if he could flourish in a home rather than be TNR'd back to the outside. For the first couple of months, he had a bedroom to himself where we would visit with him a few times a day. Little by little, he became more comfortable and hid from us less. Eventually, we let our own 3 cats visit with him at night. It is evident to me that he loves other cats. They were not as enamoured with him, though. He slowly started exploring the rest of the basement and soon made his way upstairs. He has been up with us all ever since. He is still leary of humans (especially when we are walking around), but is now enjoying pets and scratches at treat time. He LOVES treats. He drools for them as well as when he is pet. I believe he will continue to relax and trust the right humans. If our 3 cats returned his love, he would be home now. However, they have not been won over by his charm and sweetness and he deserves to be in a home with a cat or 2 that reciprocate his desire for cuddles. A relatively quiet environment is ideal - probably not with young children as he will be skittish for a while yet. He will require patience, understanding, and love. He deserves all of this and more.
Adoption Process
All potential adopters must fill out an application and go through an interview. Our adoption facilitators walk them through the shelter and help them find the perfect animal that would best match their homes. After a potential adopter signs up for a specific animal, there is a cool-down period.
We do veterinarian reference checks and follow-up telephone calls on Mondays to make sure the potential adopters are still interested. After the telephone interview has taken place, a home visit is set up and the selected animal is delivered to it's new home.
Our adoption fees are $85 for one cat or kitten and $130 for two cats or kittens. The adoption fee includes various procedures which have already been performed, such as:
Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency virus tests
Distemper shots
Rabies Booster
Preventative Dewormer
Spay or neuter for all cats at least 8 months of age or older
An adoption folder complete with an "Animal Health Log Sheet" containing the cat's health history.
Kittens must be adopted in pairs if there are no other CATS in the home. Other animals (dogs, birds etc.), people and/or kids do not count.
Under no circumstances do our animals leave the shelter the same day they are signed up for.
