ShortMy name is BJ, and I was surrendered to the shelter because my senior owner had to move in with family. No one could take me and my brother, Tigger, so we had to come to the shelter. We lived with our owner for her entire life. We are litter mates, and we are bonded very closely. We MUST be adopted together. We hadn't been to the vet for several years, so the shelter did a full exam and bloodwork on me and my brother. My bloodwork looks good, but the staff discovered Tigger is diabetic. This wasn't a surprise, because my poor brother was very skinny and his teeth were in bad shape, which can both be common with diabetes. The shelter is working on getting Tigger's diabetes managed, and he will have a dental to take care of his teeth.Because of Tigger's diabetes, we will both need to be on a diabetic-type diet that helps to control his levels, and Tigger needs twice-a-day insulin. The shelter will provide some initial support with food and medication to help my owner get started, and then our owner's veterinarian can help from there. Because of our age and Tigger's special medical needs, there is no charge for our adoption. Normal application processes and screenings still apply.
