Nelly was a stray fending for herself outside after reportedly being put out by her original owners. She was not faring well at all and it was about to get very cold. She was thin, her coat looked awful, and she was reportedly begging to get inside of homes in the neighborhood. One of our fosters knew she needed help and offered to foster her if we took her into our rescue. Of course we said yes! Nelly is very affectionate but quirky in how she accepts attention from humans. We aren't sure if she was undersocialized in her early months, if she is traumatized from her time living outdoors, and/or if humans mistreated her prior to now but she can be a bit leery of hands even though she rubs all over you wanting love. Initially she would nip at her foster mom somewhat unexpectedly sometimes when she was touched even though she was acting like she wanted to be pet. After about 2 months in her foster home, her quirky behaviors have dramatically decreased overtime but she may need an acclimation period in her new home when she gets adopted as well. She is in a foster home with other cats and does well with them. There are also dogs in her foster home and initially she was quite scared of them but she has adjusted to them well after slow introductions were done. We are recommending a home without small children for her. Nelly loves meat tubes so she's requesting a family who will continue to give those to her! Her adoption fee is $100 and you can apply to adopt on our website.
Adoption Process
Pets are altered, vaccinated and microchipped before adoption. Adopters must complete an application and contract and pay fee (which varies based on age and type of animal). They also must provide references and pass a home visit.
