Shelter Animals Rescue Group

Our organization is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 non-profit, formed in 1996 to help save adoptable dogs and cats from euthanization at the Oak Ridge Animal Shelter. We specialize in mixed breeds. Our shelter is often filled with very adoptable animals that must die because of space limitations, and we are devoted to giving a second chance to as many as we can. We house our animals in foster homes or boarding kennels for as long as it takes to find them permanent homes. We participate in numerous community events to promote our animals and the concept of adoption/rescue.

Meet Hiccup

Here comes Hiccup, ready to get lots of love and attention! He is an orange tabby Siamese mix kitten, approximately 8 months old as of the end of January 2025. Hiccup spent the first 4 months of his life in a 2x2 cage at the shelter. Then, SARG came along, saw what a sweet kitty he was, and knew he needed to get out of that cage. He was placed in foster care in October 2024, and since then, he has blossomed into a wonderful, cuddly lap kitty who still loves to play—especially with the laser pointer. Hiccup chirps at the birds on the birdfeeders and is fascinated by water running down the drain in the bathtub or shower. He doesn’t know a stranger, and whenever someone comes to the door, he’s the first kitty to arrive and greet the newcomer. At night, Hiccup sleeps soundly right by his foster mom’s side, keeping her warm on these cold winter nights. Even though she tosses and turns a lot, Hiccup always stays with her. His favorite treat is Churu pops—he’ll do anything for one of those! He loves hard treats too and will dig them out of the puzzle treat box, which is so fun to watch. Hiccup gets along great with other kitties and dogs. Maybe you have the perfect cuddle spot for him!
