Meet Pookie (FIV+)
Pookie is a loving adult male cat looking for his forever home! This handsome fellow took about 3 weeks to adjust to his foster home, and at 5 weeks he still prefers to stay hidden for part of the day—under a bed, behind a desk, or in a closet. In the beginning we used a cat brush to reach out to him and pet him and that is what motivated him to move closer to us and eventually allow us to pet him. He now seeks affection and now meows for attention. He has also started to show excitement about knowing he is going to be able to snuggle and receive. He jumps up on the bed and rolls around making eye contact, as if asking us to come give him affection. This sweet boy with the perfectly outlined nose is very content to lounge around and do nothing but prefers to cuddle up close to his person and have you pet him. He has shown some interest in catching moving objects, but he is more cautious about movement than playful at this point. Pookie will take some time to gain confidence and feel safe in his forever home. He lives with 3 adults in a house. He currently prefers the middle-aged woman over the 2 young adult men in the home, but he is learning to trust more every day. Pookie's ideal forever home would be calm and peaceful. I suspect he would not enjoy other animals or small children, as he continues to be on alert and hide himself when there is noise or sudden movement. This cute guy would also love to live with someone who works from home or is around a lot, and who would enjoy talking to him, holding him, and petting him often. He seems to prefer women over men, but he does enjoy attention from men when they give it to him. Pookie is very smart—he comes when called and especially knows when a treat is being offered. He is so ready to leave his rough days behind and enjoy the cozy, loving indoor life in a patient, compassionate home. Could that be with you? Pookie is FIV+, but that doesn’t mean he can’t live a long, normal, and healthy life! Cats with FIV commonly have average lifespans. Because FIV is spread only through deep bite wounds, FIV positive cats are able to live with FIV negative cats in stable social environments. Cats are up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations and have been spayed/neutered, treated for fleas and/or ear mites, de-wormed, and microchipped. Please note there may be additional follow-up visits.
