Underdog Rescue MN

Underdog Rescue and Placement was founded in 2000 by Shannon McKenzie. Having volunteered for several other animal rescue organizations, Shannon saw a need to help the dogs and cats often overlooked by other rescuers, the “Underdogs”Our very first rescues included a pair of black kittens named Fenway & Wrigley, a pitbull puppy named Lucy and a tiny Toy Poodle named Lily (who was suffering from a head injury). No other rescue groups would take Fenway or Wrigley because black kittens are often overlooked by potential adopters, and, up until the time we rescued Lucy, rescue groups had not been allowed to rescue any dog considered to be a “Pit Bull” from Minneapolis Animal Control. While in law school, Shannon McKenzie had the “anti-pitbull” policy changed, with the assistance of Attorney, Marshall Tannick. Underdog Rescue continues to successfully rescue and place pitbulls and other “bully-breeds” through a continued partnership with Minneapolis Animal Control.Shannon’s dedication to the Underdog also extends to puppy mill survivors. Dogs that survive life in a puppy mill often come with a different set of challenges. They may require additional medical care, socialization and teaching of basic dog skills even though some may be adults. Our volunteers understand this and welcome these pets into their homes to show them what life as a dog and life with kind humans is like.

Meet Opal

If it's Saturday, it's Caturday! Meet me at the Undercats Kitty Kat Palooza Adoption Event on Saturday December 14th from 9:30-10:45 am at Underdog Rescue Headquarters (3345 Dakota Ave, St. Louis Park, 55416) Please email [email protected] for questions regarding the cats.     Hi there! My name’s Opal, and I’m a little bundle of energy, love, and fluff! I’m a 2-month-old Domestic Short-Haired kitten, weighing a solid 3.5 pounds of pure mischief and charm. I’m the extroverted one in my sibling duo—your classic thrill-seeker with a touch of drama queen flair (in the cutest way, I promise). I absolutely love playing, whether it’s with my brother, the other pets in the house, or with humans who have fun toys like string or laser pointers. Churus or wet treats? Yes, please! They’re my favorite. Loud noises can make me jump, but with a little reassurance, I’m back to exploring and having fun. I’m fully litterbox trained, so I’m good to go in that department. While I’m outgoing and playful, I’m also a big love bug. I’ll greet you in the morning, welcome you home, and let you know when it’s cuddle time (or snack time—food is a big motivator for me!). I’d love a forever home with another pet to keep me company—whether it’s my brother or another playful friend. I get along well with cats and even dogs once we’ve had a proper introduction. If you’re looking for a spirited, affectionate kitten who’s as fun as he is sweet, I’m your guy. Let’s make every day an adventure together! Please note that this is a strictly indoor cat. This kitten may may require a home with another kitten as kittens are family oriented and do best when adopted in littermate pairs. Please fill out a Feline application here: https://underdogrescuemn.com/adoption-applications/feline-adoption-application/

Adoption Process
Our process for adoption is: 1. Potential applicant searches our available dogs and/or cats listings and completes an adoption application. 2. Our staff reviews the application and puts you in contact with the foster volunteer of the pet your interested in. 3. The foster volunteer coordinates a “meet and greet” with you and any other members of your household. 4. If the foster and adopter agree the pet is a good fit, a home visit will be scheduled. Upon completion of a successful home visit, you will complete and sign our adoption contract, pay the fee, and take home your new pet!
