Hi, I’m Chickira! I’m one of the five kittens in the crew, and I’m a tortie with the softest, sweetest personality. I’m definitely not the loudest or the boldest, but I’m always ready to snuggle and purr when I’m around my human. My brother, Coop, is the only boy, and then there’s my three sisters—Dixie (the smaller, darker tabby), Peeps (who has the most white fur and loves sneaking around), and Dumplin (the black and white sweetheart who loves cuddles). We all came to our human on October 28th after being scooped up from a chicken coop, which is how we got our chicken-themed names. I think "Chickira" is a perfect fit for me—gentle and loving, just like a little chick. We’re all super playful! We love to chase each other around, leap onto things, and tumble over toys. But when it’s time to relax, I’m the first to curl up and nap with my siblings or snuggle up in my human’s lap. Whenever they walk through the door or call us for food, we all come running, purring like little motors. We know how to use the litter box like pros, and we’re so well-behaved. We get along really well with the resident cat in the house. He’s very chill, and we like hanging out with him, even though we keep our distance sometimes. The two golden retrievers, though? They make us a little nervous. But we’re starting to get brave and sneak up on them to sniff them out. Every now and then, we even try to cuddle them when we’re feeling extra bold. I’m really close with my siblings, and I think we’d do best in a home where there’s another kitten or a friendly cat to play with. We’re a tight-knit group, and I think we’d get lonely if we were separated from each other. If you’re looking for a playful, loving kitten who will shower you with purrs and affection, then I might just be the one for you! I’m located in Clear Lake, and I usually meet people at the PetSmart in Monticello for exchanges. Let me know if you want to see more pictures of me and my sisters—I’d love to share them with you! Purrs and snuggles, **Chickira** Chickira is from a stray surrender with 4 siblings. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals. Want to adopt a kitten? We highly recommend you consider bringing home two instead of one! Adopting kittens in pairs has been proven to be beneficial for cats’ emotional and behavioral well-being and greatly improves the likelihood of long-term adopter happiness as a result. Adopting more than one kitten also reduces the risk of “Single Kitten Syndrome” (also known as Tarzan Syndrome), a symptom of under-socialization during a kitten’s most formative weeks. Kittens who are under-socialized may develop aggressive tendencies toward both other animals and humans as they grow, creating lifelong behavioral issues for owners.
