Emmet County Animal Shelter

We live in a primarily rural area with a 50% poverty level and 40% non Caucasian/transient population. Due to the farmer mentality or disposable mentality of our area many pets find them selves homeless due to no fault of their own. We take in animals that are neglected, abandon, injured or just unwanted. We rehabilitate them and then re-home them through our adoption process. We have been solely foster based since 2010 and are currently building our new facility. We do it all with volunteers and we do it because we love it! The animals deserve better and we try our best to offer them that by doing what we can, when we can, the best we can, with what we have and with all our heart.

Meet Carmen

Carmen was brought to our shelter by the caretakers of a local cat colony. They knew this recently spayed orange tuxedo cat wasn’t one of their colony cats and thought she might also be unwell. As it turns out, she has a bit of an unusual squeaky purr. No one came looking for her, so we put her in one of our community rooms once she was determined to be healthy. Carmen is affectionate and playful. She wants a a human or humans of her own to take her home.  Carmen was born November of 2023. She is spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations. As always, cat/kitten adoptions are free will donation to approved applicants. ****The first step in the adoption process is to complete the application at www.emmetcountyanimalshelter.org****

Adoption Process
application, adoption fees for dogs/puppies start at $150-$300. Cats/kittens are free will offering adoptions. Contracts for adoptions must be signed. All animals (unless too young) are altered prior to adoption. If not altered a deposit is paid and given back plus a rebate after the alteration has been performed.
