Meet Gizmo
Gizmo is a beautiful kitty who loves to snuggle! He was one of a group of cats and kittens being fed by a family in Lincoln County, MO. We were lucky to easily catch 3 of the kittens who are now in our care. Gizmo was the most cautious of the three. It took a little time for him to feel comfortable, but now he loves pets and leaning in to you. And he is going to be a big boy, so you feel it when he leans into you! He is very playful and gets along well with other cats. He really likes to run and chase his kitty friends, but he isn't mean, just playful! Unfortunately, all three of the kittens we took in tested positive for FeLV. The Feline Leukemia virus is a retrovirus that infects cats in a variety of ways. Kittens can get it from their mama while in utero, FeLV+ cats can spread it to other cats with the transfer of saliva or nasal secretions, such as grooming each other and sharing food and water bowls. FeLV+ cats do not necessarily need medication, but they do need to be seen by a veterinarian at the first sign of illness. Giving them immune support through certain foods high in protein can also benefit them. FeLV+ cats can live with other FeLV+ cats. It is not recommended to have FeLV+ and negative cats in the same household. FeLV is not transmissible to other animals or to humans. Gizmo is looking for a home where his family understands his condition. He would love another kitty to run and play with, and snuggle with when he's tired. He is neutered, microchipped, tested negative for FIV, and is current on vaccinations. Does your home seem like a good fit for Gizmo? (and maybe his buddy Eli!) If so, he will love on you forever. FeLV+ kitties can live a normal life for years with the virus, but there is no way to tell if it would be 5 years or 10 years. So if you open your home to him, he would be eternally grateful and promise you every single day full of love and entertainment! 14561JT
Adoption Process
the first step in our process is an
application. The questions on the application are designed to
determine if the pet would be a good fit in this home. We contact the
applicants veterinarian to verify they have a good history of
previous (or current) pet care. We meet the applicant at Petsmart or
at their home to allow them to interact with the pet they are
interested in adopting. If all goes well the adoption is finalized.
We have an adoption contract, requiring regular vet care, indoor
homes, return to us if it doesnt work out, etc. Our dog adoption fee
is $175, cats range from $80 for older cats to $125 for kittens
