Meet Gizmo
Gizmo - Female DOB 6/14/2024 Domestic Short Hair - Tortoiseshell Gizmo is a brave and spirited tortoiseshell kitten with a true love of life! After surviving parvo as a tiny kitten, she developed a neurological condition called cerebellar ataxia where her hind torso wobbles and sways when she walks or runs. Some may look at her as a special needs kitten, but she doesn’t see herself that way. Gizmo is a special kitten to all that have met her… She doesn’t let this disability slow her down and she doesn’t know any different then that’s how she is and it doesn’t slow her down one bit. There is a possibility that as Gizmo gets bigger and stronger that her hind end will get stronger as well. There has already been a slight improvement since she came up from down South. Gizmo is usually in full-on play mode nearly all the time, managing to climb, explore, and find her way to the best napping spots—often up high where she can watch the action! But once she tires herself out playing, she finds a nice, comfortable napping spot. Despite her unique gait, Gizmo can navigate a few stairs, loves to play with toys, and even gives that classic “tortitude” when other cats come near her. When she’s in her chill mode, she loves to be pet and will reward you with nonstop purrs, though at times she still thinks your hand is a play toy and might get a bit playful with love bites. We are working on that aspect with giving her stuffed toys that she can bite or leg kick. When she finally winds down, she’ll cozy up on your lap, ready for snuggles and pets. She doesn’t mind being picked up as long as you can support her hind end and it’s not dangling, and will sit in your arms briefly before sometimes starting to play bite with your hands. Gizmo would do best in a home without children or dogs, but a playful kitty companion would be a great match to share in her adventures. She’s a little wonder, and anyone lucky enough to bring Gizmo home will get a kitten full of love, courage, and plenty of character! Her humans would need to be cat-savvy and be prior or current cat owners and have experience with adapting to her needs.
