Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition, Inc.

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home. For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals. Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.

Meet Mississippi

With her motley coloured coat, golden eyes, and toes that look like they were generated by chatGPT, Mississippi is a truly stunning kitty to behold. She’s a powerhouse in a tiny package. And those big thumbs aren’t just for hitching a ride to her new home, they were made for mischief. Missi has a knack for finding hide-y spots to get into, and she likes to get into everything. The hall closet, the highest bedroom shelf, the laundry hamper. The cabinet of dishes…over the kitchen sink. As far as she’s concerned, nothing is off limits. You’ll be on your toes with this one under your roof!  She’s a young cat with a lot of energy, a little “torti-tude”, a high prey drive, and a tendency to get overstimulated. The trick is keeping her entertained with wands, catnip mice, and ping pong balls. Those wide paws are great for playing catch and she should get enough exercise/play so she’s fully tired out several times every day. She’s much more affectionate when she’s tired and also less mischievous.  Missi would do best in a home with either a person who works from home, or a family with several members who are in and out of the house throughout the day. Just mind the doors because she’s a wily escape artist! Don’t let her tendency to hijinks dissuade you. She’s sweet and playful, loves to sit on a warm lap, will follow you into the bathroom and around the house if she’s not napping on the cat tree or in the window (she loves to watch the birds!) She’ll also climb up and settle on your shoulders like a living stole and purr in your ears. She’ll sleep on your chest, or by your side in bed, or next to you in whatever room you’re working. She likes human company and will often just come hang out and snooze wherever you are. One of her favourite places in her foster home is the stool in the kitchen where she can sleep or birdwatch, but she’s also at the right height for getting pets and brushies and treats from anyone nearby.
