Spirit cats are one of life's beautiful and sometimes spooky mysteries. In the shelter world, these are the cats you might not see, but who you know are there. You can always feel their presence, whether it's a faint rustle up in the cat walk, a tail disappearing through the catio door, or simply the presents they leave in the litterbox. And though they don't grace us with their adorable faces very often, they deserve just as much love and care as our friendly feline residents. Denise and Patch are gal pals who came to us together back in March. We were told they were friendly with a caretaker when they lived outside, and while Denise (diluted tabico with more orange on her face) is v e r y s l o w l y becoming more trusting of some of our volunteers, Patch (diluted calico with more gray on her face) is seldom seen, especially during the hustle and bustle of our open hours. Generally speaking, we don't know why Spirit Cats are the way they are or what may have happened in their past lives. They aren't feral and wouldn't necessarily be happy or able to survive living outside as barn cats, for example. Usually, they quite enjoy the soft beds, abundance of food and the occasional sneaky play session; they just generally don't want to see humans or be seen by them. Sometimes they open up in actual home environments; sometimes they don't. Sometimes they're friendly with other animals in a home; sometimes they aren't. Denise and Patch may live their lives out here at SCAS, and that's a-okay with us. But if anyone could find it in their hearts to care for two cats who may not give much back in terms of cuddles or funny antics, please fill out an application at www.secondchanceas.org/adopt or call us with questions at 570-376-3646.
