High Plateau Humane Society

HPHS was founded in 1987 and we rescue about 120 dogs and 250 cats per year. We are an all-volunteer organization and run a thrift store, called Second Chance Thrift, from which we adopt out animals and sell our low-cost spay and neuter certificates. We have a number volunteers, including a board of five. We do this because we have a passion to rescue orphaned and homeless animals and want to make life better for the animals in our county.

Meet Dahlia

Probable daughter of Delta Dawn, 2024 spring model. One of 11 very well-socialized females surrendered recently after eviction from a single Alturas apartment unit. The ages of these ladies range from half year to the matriarch of about 4 years. We believe all are related to each other. Housed together for weeks this far there has not been a single schirmish! Try that with humans ;) Meet these well-behaved felines at the shelter, W-F 10-2 or middle Saturdays 10-1. Email questions to [email protected].

Adoption Process
When someone releases an animal to HPHS, we require a signed release form. We then have the animal vaccinated and spayed or neutered before offering it for adoption. Adoption fees vary and are listed with each animal.
