Meet SKADE (Neut./FIV+)
SKADE is a beautiful and sweet boy. He is the best of the best in that he is an orange tabby male adult who is gentle and loves back scratches and appreciates attention and affection. Staff has listed his age at 3 to 4 years. He arrived at the shelter in April 2024. Thanks to a partnership between UT and Cumberland County Animal Shelter, he was neutered on Tuesday, July 15. As a result of his surgery, he is able to go home the same day that he is adopted. This boy was actually selected for transport to an out-of-state rescue group/adoption agency. They required Combo testing prior to that transport and it was found that he was FIV+. As a result, he could not make the transport, but he is still available for adoption at our county animal shelter. This is not a death sentence for cats. It is simply an auto immune condition, which means that if he does come down with an upper respiratory infection or something just like any other cat, you would take him to the vet for treatment. As a result, he definitely needs to be an indoor cat. And while it is not readily transferable to other cats, keep it in mind if you do have any other cats. Serious adopters are encouraged to CALL the shelter to schedule an adoption appointment. Staff can explain the adoption procedures and fees when you call. The shelter does require EXACT change in the form of cash or check. The shelter is UNABLE to accept credit or debit. So, please go prepared! That includes taking an adult size cat carrier with you to the adoption appointment in case you do decide to adopt SKADE or one of the other animals that either arrived already fixed or was lucky enough to be selected to go through their surgery under a special program. No animal should be allowed to run freely in any vehicle. Especially an animal that you have just adopted! Safety first!
Adoption Process
Adoption contract, Adoption fee of $50 per cat and $80 per dog set by county commission and subject to change, drivers license and cash or check only. The adoption fees currently cover most, but not all, of the spay/neuter cost incurred by the county.
