One of the original KD Kitties and longest foster residents, Butternut is a sweet, mellow girl. We believe she may be Grumpy Gus’ sister (see our socials to find out more about Gus). She’s a little shy at first due to her former life as a feral cat, but she enjoys pets as long as you go slow and take the time to earn her trust first. We’ve also discovered that she is a Whitney Houston fan and can actually be summoned when we sing to her! Her favorite song is “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and she will meow and roly-poly at her foster mama’s feet any time she starts to sing this song to her. If you’re an avid Whitney Houston fan and/or a singer, we think it’ll be hard not to fall in love with this sweet, gentle girl! As with most cats, Butternut will need time to adjust to her new home. Formerly feral cats generally require more time and patience than other cats, and it can’t take up to a year or more for them to fully adapt to their new home. Butternut would do best in a home with other friendly cats and without dogs, although she is tolerant and curious about smaller, cat savvy dogs under 30lbs. Preference will go to those willing to adopt Butternut with one of the other adoptable KD Kitties, with a combined adoption fee of $250. Please reach out for more information! Adoption link can be found on our organization page.
Adoption Process
We have a Google form that all potential fosters and adopters are required to fill out. Based on this form, we will proceed with the screening process and have a telephone/virtual/or in person interview which generally includes all persons who will be living with the cats. If approved, they have the option to foster, foster-to-adopt or adopt. If they decide to adopt, we have a separate adoption agreement that they are required to fill out and sign, along with an adoption fee that is equal to the amount of veterinary services spent on the cat(s) to include spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, etc. If fostering-to-adopt, we may consider waiving the adoption fee. Our goal is to ensure cats are placed in a home that is a good fit for the cat(s), the adopter(s), and all family members and residents to include other pets currently living in the home. Fosters and adopters are required to contact us and return animals to our rescue if at any time they feel they can no longer care for the animal.
