Mr. Whiskers was found trying to get in the back door of a home. The good Samaritan fed him, but could not bring him in the house. They believe he was left behind when some people down the block moved several months earlier. He appeared to be very friendly, but had also been getting in fights with another stray cat in the area. After a visit to the vet he was thought to be between 2-3 years old. He did have a nasty ear infection which explains his mismatched ears (notice his "tail light" too). Unfortunately, he did test positive for feline leukemia. He is young and in good health now (and quite chunky). Mr. Whiskers is a very loving and well behaved boy. He loves to snuggle in bed and doesn't seem to have any interest in returning to the great outdoors. He has discovered soft, warm beds, toys, and uses the litter box. Mr. Whiskers would be perfect as an only cat (he is great lap cat). He could also be paired with another cat with the same diagnosis. Because he has to be kept isolated from the resident cats in his foster home, we do not know how he is with other cats at this time. Feline leukemia is not a death sentence, it is a virus. He can still live a long and healthy life, but it may be shorter than a non-FeLV cat (10-12 years instead of 18-20). With a good diet and vet care, he will still have many good years of companionship left for someone lucky enough to adopt him. If you are interested in possibly adopting any of our available pets, we ask that you fill out a non-binding adoption application on our website: purrfectmatch.rescuegroups.org/forms. For more information, please email us at [email protected] or call our voicemail at 920-234-5995. Thank you for choosing to adopt!
Adoption Process
Potential adopters must fill out an application form including information regarding declawing (we do NOT support declawing). We then call references and prior vet(s), as well as run a background check for legal issues. The Board of Directors approves an applicant. At that time, the animal is taken to the home and a home visit performed. If it is satisfactory, the animal(s) is(are) left at the new home. A two-week trial period ensues in order to make certain a "perfect match" has been made. Either the adopter or PFM can remove the animal from the home during that two-week period. After that, the adoption is final.
