Approximately 1,600 cases are being pulled from shelves after an alert from the product manufacturer that potentially elevated levels of Vitamin D are present. In 2021, Wet Noses Natural Dog Treat Company also issued a dog food recall alert for potentially elevated levels of vitamin D.

Why Was The Dog Food Recalled?
The product manufacturer notified Tuffy’s that its products may contain elevated levels of vitamin D. Furthermore, the manufacturer has identified the error and steps have been taken to rectify the mistakes. Additionally, no other Pure Vita products are affected.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is aware of this recall and preventable measures have been implemented to prevent future issues from reoccurring.

When large doses of vitamin D are ingested, it can lead to serious health issues in dogs. Unlike water-soluble vitamins, Vitamin D is fat-soluble. This means that when an excess amount is ingested, it does not leave the body through the urine. Instead, it’s stored in the liver and fat tissue. Large amounts will lead to kidney failure and in come cases, death.
