Weimaraner Rescue of the South

Weimaraner Rescue of the South (WRS) is an all-volunteer, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to saving Weimaraners in need in Alabama, Mississippi, and parts of Louisiana, Tennessee, and Georgia and placing them into loving forever homes. We have been saving Weimaraners throughout our footprint for more than 10 years. Our priority is to rescue Weimaraners who find themselves in animal controls and high-kill shelters in Alabama, Mississippi, and parts of Tennessee, Louisiana, and Georgia. We also offer "courtesy posts" for owners who feel they can no longer provide a home for their Weimaraner. All Weimaraners in our care are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and treated for any medical issues they might have including but not limited to heartworm disease, orthopedic concerns, and vision issues. Our efforts are funded by adoption fees and donations from "Weim-loving" people like you.

Meet Freddie

1. Freddie is about 4 years old and weighs 80lbs. He's a big, strong 80lbs. He has very good manners (minus the occasional counter surfing escapades) but he is large and strong. 2. Freddie loves ALL humans. He's fantastic with children. He is very extroverted. He loves to meet people. If you do not like to talk to strangers while walking your dog, Freddie may not be for you. 3. Freddie does not believe in personal space. He is extremely affectionate and loves to cuddle. He will follow you to the bathroom if you do not close the door. 4. Freddie does a great job of matching the energy of dogs that he meets. If the other dog is easy going and relaxed, so is Freddie. If the other dog is loud, rude, or pushy, Freddie will respond accordingly. 5. No cats or small animals for Freddie. No exceptions. He will absolutely try to kill them. He's not a bad dog for that, he's just a Weimaraner with a very high prey drive. 6. Freddie rides great in the car and walks well on a leash (as long as he doesn't see a cat). He's a great travel partner.

Adoption Process
Are you ready to adopt? Make sure you do your homework on this breed before taking this step as this is not the breed for the average household and you must be committed to their needs as well as your own. Still want to add a Weimaraner to your family? Great! Fill out a WRS Adoption Application to begin the adoption process with us. You will be contacted by one of our volunteers to begin the approval process which includes a veterinary background check, phone interview, and home visit. ADOPTION FEES: EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY 1, 2016 OUR ADOPTION FEE FOR PUPPIES 6 MONTHS AND YOUNGER IS $375 WITH A $100 REFUNDABLE SPAY/NEUTER CONTRACT, $300 FOR ADULT WEIMARANERS, SENIORS AND MIXED BREEDS $225. This includes microchip, spay/neuter, and Heartworm prevention. All dogs have been fully vetted and treated for any medical issues of which we are aware.
