We agreed to take four of them - Fern was one. She is very scared of new people and will take time and patience to warm up and trust you BUT once she does, she is a total sweetheart. This is what rescue is all about... if you want to rescue a dog that needs love and patience, you have found her. Once she gets comfortable in your home she is very playful; that is the reason she needs another young small dog to play with. Our must-haves for pretty little Fern include: A fenced yard Another young, small, well-socialized dog to play with and hang with Someone who will have the patience to make her comfortable in their home and help her overcome her fear of the unknown Someone who can be home a lot (at least 9-10 hours a day) No apartments, high-rises, or condos If you meet these requirements, please consider adopting Fern and submit your online application.   ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.  There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.  We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3. Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form. Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend.  We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest.  We just can't get them from one coast to the other.  Please look for dogs on your coast.

Adoption Process
Our adoption process is documented on our website at: http://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/info/adoption We do check all references including vet and a home visit is conducted for each animal adoption unless the adopter has previously adopted and there have been no changes or large lapse of time.
