He came from East Tennessee where he had been left behind in an apartment with two kittens. We’re not sure why Peabody was abandoned as he has proven to be quite the friendly dog. He loves being in your lap, but beware, within a few moments he will start snoring! He is not fond of his kennel, but you can put him in there without fuss. He'll start barking once he figures out that you’re about to leave.  Because we are unsure how long this lasts, we will say that apartments are a “no.” Peabody loves being around his people and gets along with all the dogs in the foster home. He has acclimated to this foster home quite well and did so quickly. There have been one or two potty accidents in the house, but given his recent circumstances, he has done exceptionally well in that regard. As with any dachshund, he needs to be kept on a schedule. Several of Peabody's teeth had to be removed when he arrived in rescue. He is currently eating softened kibble and will need to continue doing so for a short time until his gums heal. This little guy is a super sweet dog that will follow you around the house, only looking for attention and affection. He has only been in his foster home for a little over two weeks and acts like he’s been there his entire life. Could you be the lucky person to give him his forever home? Our must-haves for little Mr. Peabody include: A fenced yard A doggie door would be a plus Another small dog for him to buddy with No apartments, condos, or high-rises ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.  There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.  We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
