Meet Joker
Adoption fee: $650 Joker is a 2-3 year old Spaniel mix who weighs 25 lbs. He was surrendered to our rescue because the larger dog in the home was bullying him. The owner had to give up one of the two dogs and he knew that it would be harder to find a new home for his big dog, so he surrendered Joker to us. Joker was a much loved dog and we promised his owner we would find him an amazing new home! Joker's foster calls him "Jo," as it's easier and quicker. Here is her report! We typically wake up between 6:00 am – 6:30 am during the week. Joker is immediately taken outside to go potty. Generally, we eat around 6:30 am. We noticed Joker is a slow eater/picks at his food. I try to feed him periodically between 6:00 am - 6:30 am. You probably could leave his bowl out so he could nibble on his food during the day, but our other dogs try to swoop on his food if we are not watching, so it takes a little more time for feeding in the morning. Sometimes when his foster dad is having his coffee, he likes to lay next to him in the morning. He also likes to hang out in the back yard while we are getting ready. When he is done exploring, he will come and sit with me in my room until I’m ready. We generally go for a 15-20 minute walk around 7:30 am. On the days I go into the office, he is in an x-pen/crate and seems to do well until we get home from work. We haven’t had any accidents in the crate during the day. He is about 90% potty trained. When we get home, we immediately let him out for a potty break, play time, and some belly rubs. On days I work from home, he lays in the office with me and the other dogs most of the day. He likes to take periodic breaks outside exploring. He is getting used to using the dog door (he can usually get outside, but sometimes takes a minute for him to figure out how to come back inside). He often tries to get my attention during the day and wants some cuddles, belly/ears rubbed, and even some booty scratches. He likes to stare out the window and people watch. If I get up and walk around, he always follows me and wants to see what I’m doing (he’s a great helper!). Initially, he took to me (foster mom) quicker than his foster dad. However, he is quickly warming up to his foster dad and even lays by the door waiting for him to come back if he leaves. The dogs get dinner between 6:00 pm – 6:30 pm. We will do a longer walk after dinner and when we come back the dogs run around more or start to settle in their favorite spot on the couch. Overall, Joker does well on leash. He doesn’t pull and when we walk past other dogs he doesn’t seem to be phased by them (big or small). He is very excited to walk, so you will have to be careful to make sure if doesn’t tangle you up (we are working on it). After some cuddles on the couch, we go outside for one last potty break before bed around 10:00 pm. Joker will go lay in his crate when we come back inside. Joker sleeps in his crate throughout the night. He seems to enjoy his crate, even during the day he will periodically nap in it. If we had more space in our bed, we would let him sleep with us and I know he would enjoy that much more! Joker was initially shy when we first picked him up. It took him about 3 days to fully settle in. The first couple of nights he preferred to lay in his bed on the floor. As he started opening up, we would pat the couch to signal he could come up and sit with us and now he tends to join us on the couch every night. Joker loves to be outside in our yard and go on walks. He is such a sweet boy and you can tell he is super happy to be around his people and other dogs. He is curious and is always wondering what you are doing or where you are at. He is also a cuddler and loves pets! He isn’t very treat or food motivated. He will occasionally play with some toys, but he would rather get pets and snuggles. He is a happy go-lucky dog. We have 2 medium size dogs (about 30 pounds/same as Joker) and they get along well. He is not much of a “player” but does like to run around and explore with them. He also will lay with them on the couch. Joker loves to walk and gets excited when he sees his leash! Overall, he is a good walker. He does not pull and has not exhibited leash reactivity. He does get super curious on walks and will walk back and forth. I would initially recommend a shorter leash, and we are working with him to walk on one side so it doesn’t trip us up. He loves new scents and exploring with our dogs on the walks. He has not barked at other passing dogs or people. There are lots of children at the park we walk through and he has not had any issues with them. Although he can be shy and quiet, he is a lover! He really is so sweet and is looking for his best friend. He always has a smile on his face - no day is a bad day for Jo. Joker is so sweet and such a great snuggler. He has the biggest smile when we are about to go walk or when he gets to go outside. He also loves his pets! Even after I have given him a lot of pets, he will go scratch up against a tree or a table to get more pets. He has started playing more with toys during the day. He is a good sharer and even brings toys over for our other dogs to play with – how sweet! His favorite toy is a puppachino that has a squeaker inside! Joker is a bit of an escape artist. Since he loves the outdoors, he tends to look for the moment the door is opening, so his new owner will need to take care not to let him slip out. It might be good to put an AirTag on him! Joker is a really good dog- good with people, good with other dogs, not a barker, and relatively low maintenance. He could be a good fit in a variety of homes, provided they have some prior dog experience in their lifetime. He is an option for kids over the age of 5.
