Doggie Protective Services

We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) animal rescue organization based in So. CA who has established chapters outside of the area to attempt to place more of the dogs that are dying in the shelters in So. CA. Many areas do not have small breed dogs and we transport and meet with potential adopters because So. CA is deluged in small breed dogs.

Meet Jerry

Adoption fee: $800   Ben and Jerry are 10 week old Shih Tzu x Poodle (and Puffball) mixes who were rescued from an accidental litter. We expect them to be in the 10-15 pound range when they are fully grown. These puppies are a rescue favorite and we have not seen their tails stop wagging once! We do not know whether these puppies will be an option for those with allergies when they get their adult coats. Here is the report from their foster. Ben and Jerry wake up around 6:30 AM and go outside to potty right away, then they run around while we get ready and feed them breakfast. They stay in their pen while I am working, and then go out for another round of potty around 12. We feed them again at 6 PM. Then they play until it is time for the last potty of the night, before going to their pen where they mostly sleep through the night.  Ben and Jerry are inquisitive and playful puppies. They love to wrestle and play with each other, and are starting to figure out fetch. They are affectionate and enjoy attention, but are also happy to hang out on their bed while we are working. They would love to have another dog in their forever home to chase after.  While Jerry leads the way on new adventures, Ben is never far behind. They love to play with the neighborhood kids and will make amazing new family members for whoever is lucky enough to take one of them home.    The puppies are only an option for homes that have owned a dog in the last 5 years. If there are children, they should be age 6+ due to the adult size of these puppies.

Adoption Process
We require an application from anyone who is interested in adopting. Then we require a phone interview, followed by a meeting in person. Then if the animal is a match, we have a contract and our adoption fee which is $400.
