Our Lil Miss Bambi has not had the best luck getting adopted and having it stick. She originally came in with a dog that she was bonded with, and both were adopted together. The family returned Bambi a few weeks later, stating that she was not acclimating to their home. She was then adopted again by a family with a K9 brother who she got along with well. Unfortunately, she was returned months later for being too destructive. We were told that her separation anxiety got the better of her and she was destructive in the home and in the yard. She was again returned. This last time that she was adopted, the adopter had another dog, a K9 brother who she got on with well during the meet and greet here at the shelter. Bambi was returned a few days later, because she was being food aggressive (resource guarding) with the other dog. This was also a small apartment (owner worked from home and was very active with walking/hiking, so it was an appropriate home) We believe that the confined area where food and water was kept for both dogs, her being brand new to yet another household, her trying to establish her place/rank with the other dog, were all contributing factors. Why are we telling you all of this? Because we believe in and love Bambi very much and we need to be sure that the next adopter sticks and is willing to put in the time and has the right environment for her to grow comfortable and finally be someoneâs forever dog. She is so affectionate and loves to snuggle and get belly rubs. Sheâll bring you her toys and loves to play but can be super mellow as well. If you have a bigger place, with a yard and enough space where dogs can take a break from each other and be fed apart from each other, she can be adopted by someone who has another dog, if the meet and greet goes well. If you have a smaller place, and no other animals, that is also doable. Shelter dogs take at least 3 months to feel fully comfortable in a new home. She will need your attention, your guidance, and your patience. Bambi will be so worth the journey; we just know it!
