Doggie Protective Services

We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) animal rescue organization based in So. CA who has established chapters outside of the area to attempt to place more of the dogs that are dying in the shelters in So. CA. Many areas do not have small breed dogs and we transport and meet with potential adopters because So. CA is deluged in small breed dogs.

Meet Dr. Dre

This dog will be at a meet and greet event on Saturday, April 22nd unless he/she is adopted prior to the event with a set up home. The event is from 12 pm to 3 pm at Palo Alto's Pet Food Express. Those interested in meeting the dog can come out to our meet and greet event. We no longer do application approval onsite. Anyone adopting has been previously approved and set up to meet prior to the event. Adoption fee: $500 Dr. Dre is a 10 month old Miniature Lab mix who we rescued from Maui Humane Society. As a small shelter on a small island, they take in more dogs than they can place, so we help them out by taking in dogs when we can to find them forever homes on the mainland. Dre came to DPS with his brother, Biggie Smalls (M). He weighs about 30 lbs and is not expected to grow much more; he's the perfect medium-sized dog! Here is the report from his foster home. When we first started fostering Dr. Dre he was a mellow youngster. He loved to sleep and would play for short periods of time but then would sleep again. What a difference a week makes! Dre has come out of his shell and is comfortable showing us his true joyful personality now. He loves to wrestle with our dogs and play chase in the backyard. He is an assertive chewer and loves durable toys to get his chewing needs met. He thoroughly enjoys walking and is good on a leash with an occasional pull to sniff something interesting. He is learning manners and working on training, like waiting for his food to be put on the floor before he tries to eat it, keeping all four paws on the floor when he greets people, waiting to be asked to come up on the couch and allowing humans to eat without jumping up and trying to share their yummy food. He is crate trained and is working on house training. He learned sit and down in a few short days and is starting to get wait and leave it. He is a smart boy and super trainable!   Dre loves his canine companions and his human foster family. He is super affectionate and loves to cuddle at night while the family watches TV. He likes to be near his foster mom and will explore areas of the house by himself. He is a real sweetheart and a joy to have in the home!   Our daily routine: 6:30 Potty break and breakfast follwoed by playtime in the backyard with the doggy pack. Then it's rest time in the crate for an hour while humans work out and eat. More play and a 30-60 minute walk around the neighborhood for sniffing and exercise. Dinner is at 6:30, followed by a play session and then lounging and relaxing with the family. One last potty break before bed, and then he sleeps through the night in his crate.   Dr Dre is a real sweetheart and will benefit from additional training to become his best doggy self. He loves loves loves to play with other dogs and would love to join another playful dog in the home or go to a doggy daycare where he can play the day away!   Dr. Dre is only an option for a home with prior dog experience. He is an option for kids over the age of 5.

Adoption Process
