Doggie Protective Services

We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) animal rescue organization based in So. CA who has established chapters outside of the area to attempt to place more of the dogs that are dying in the shelters in So. CA. Many areas do not have small breed dogs and we transport and meet with potential adopters because So. CA is deluged in small breed dogs.

Meet Trilogy

This dog will be at a meet and greet event on Saturday, February 25th unless he/she is adopted prior to the event with a set up home. The event is from 12 pm to 3 pm at Palo Alto's Pet Food Express. Those interested in meeting the dog can come out to our meet and greet event. We no longer do application approval onsite. Anyone adopting has been previously approved and set up to meet prior to the event. Adoption fee: $650 Trilogy is a 6-7 year old Papillon mix who weighs 8.3 lbs and is quite petite. He came to DPS from a shelter where he had been surrendered along with a few other doggy friends. Trilogy was by far the most outgoing of the group and was immediately a friend to every volunteer he met! He's such a sweetheart to both humans and other dogs. Here is the report from his foster! When Trilogy first arrived, he was a tad bit nervous about his new surroundings. In about 2 days, he turned into a happy, active, and bouncy pup! He loves attention and is ready for pets anytime. He is not allowed on the furniture, but when we get down on the floor, he climbs into our lap for snuggles. He follows me around the house but when I close the door (bathroom or office) he either waits outside or hangs out with my husband. He does not whine for attention.   Trilogy sleeps in his crate from 10:30 PM to 7:00/7:30 AM. He wakes up with energy, checks on his humans, and gets a big sip of water before going on a walk for 10 to 15 minutes in the neighborhood. He gets a treat, and his kibble bowl gets filled and is left for him to graze throughout the day. He usually eats mid-morning/noon and late evening (7:00 to 8:00 PM). He gets to go on a few more walks (10 to 15 minutes) around the neighborhood - 12:00 PM, 5:00 PM, and 10:00 PM. On occasion, he completes leftover kibble after his last walk. During the day he hangs out with me or my husband in our work areas (we both work from home). For the most part he takes a nap while we are working and doesn’t disturb us. We let him walk in the backyard if we are unable to make the walks on time.   We do not have any pets at home, but he has seen our neighbor's outdoor cat and is not interested in him or the squirrels that visit our backyard often, so he would likely be an option for a home with cats. We met a few neighborhood kids and he was either uninterested or gentle when they approached.   He hasn't had an accident since day 2. He is crate-trained and sleeps in his crate from 10:00/10:30 PM to 7:00/7:30 AM. He whined to stay in the crate on day 1 but soon got used to it. We left him in the crate for a grocery run, and he seemed to settle down after a few minutes of complaining.   He does not chew or dig. We have cables and shoes accessible to him, but he is not interested. He barks when packages/mail are delivered but stops when we acknowledge.   Trilogy is easy to love and an absolute delight to have around. He is attentive and curious to learn and please his humans. He enjoys his trainer treats after every walk and the occasional peanut butter on a lick mat. He is content to lie by the couch while we watch tv or work in the evenings. Trilogy is the type of dog you can't help but love! He's sweet, gentle, loving, good with dogs, fine around small animals, friendly with humans... what more can you ask for?! Trilogy is an option for almost any type of home. He is an option for kids over the age of 5.

Adoption Process
We require an application from anyone who is interested in adopting. Then we require a phone interview, followed by a meeting in person. Then if the animal is a match, we have a contract and our adoption fee which is $400.
