Doggie Protective Services

We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) animal rescue organization based in So. CA who has established chapters outside of the area to attempt to place more of the dogs that are dying in the shelters in So. CA. Many areas do not have small breed dogs and we transport and meet with potential adopters because So. CA is deluged in small breed dogs.

Meet Sound of Music: Brigitta

This dog will be at a meet and greet event on Saturday, November 18th unless he/she is adopted prior to the event with a set up home. The event is from 12 pm to 3 pm at Palo Alto's Pet Food Express. Those interested in meeting the dog can come out to our meet and greet event. We no longer do application approval onsite. Anyone adopting has been previously approved and set up to meet prior to the event. Adoption Fee: $700   Sound of Music: Brigitta is a 5 year old Maltese x Poodle mix who was rescued from a hoarding situation with her six siblings. These pups came to us with some of the worst matting we have ever seen in our 20+ years as a rescue, but were all loving and patient as our volunteers worked to free them of their matted coats. Brigitta has quickly blossomed into a loving and curious pup who is loving her newfound freedom! She has a non-shedding coat which makes her an option for those with allergies, or who want less hair around the house. She will require regular grooming and we will be looking for homes who have a plan for coat maintenance.    Below is a note from Brigitta’s foster. “Brigitta is a courageous, affectionate, loving, loyal, and wonderfully perfect dog. Despite her less than stellar start to the world, once she decides you are her people, she will happily follow you to the ends of the Earth. Brigitta is very smart and started picking up on cues immediately. She is great on the leash as well and adores her walks. She learned “wait” and “okay” in days! She has also been working on her potty training and is making fantastic progress! Brigitta wakes up at 7 AM and heads outside to potty before getting a short morning walk. She spends a bit lounging as I get some work done and then has breakfast. We go on another potty walk after that and then she spends the afternoon snoozing the day away near me on her bed or with my pup. She has dinner at 5:30 and then either gets one last walk or heads out on errands with me before she turns in for the night.  Brigitta is a total people’s dog and shows it every day. She gets along with other dogs and will sometimes snuggle with our resident pup, but if she had the choice she would prefer a lap over anything else. She also enjoyed meeting kids and would do well with a family who is looking for a new buddy! Brigitta would be the perfect dog for just about any home, as long as she can take on the world with you! She loves attention and giving love (and with a face this cute it is hard to resist) so we have no doubt she will have you saying “So Long, Farewell” to life without her as soon as you meet her!”   Brigitta is an option for those who have owned a dog in the last five years. Interested homes must have a plan for continued grooming. Children in the home should be over the age of 6.

Adoption Process
We require an application from anyone who is interested in adopting. Then we require a phone interview, followed by a meeting in person. Then if the animal is a match, we have a contract and our adoption fee which is $400.
