Doggie Protective Services

We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) animal rescue organization based in So. CA who has established chapters outside of the area to attempt to place more of the dogs that are dying in the shelters in So. CA. Many areas do not have small breed dogs and we transport and meet with potential adopters because So. CA is deluged in small breed dogs.

Meet Queen: Freddie Mercury

This dog will be at a meet and greet event on Saturday, October 21st unless he/she is adopted prior to the event with a set up home. The event is from 12 pm to 3 pm at Palo Alto's Pet Food Express. Those interested in meeting the dog can come out to our meet and greet event. We no longer do application approval onsite. Anyone adopting has been previously approved and set up to meet prior to the event. Adoption Fee: $750 The Queen Litter was born on July 24, 2023 in an amazing foster home. There are three boys and three girls in the litter. The mom is a Shih Tzu- Lhasa Apso mix and there is clearly more than one litter dad, as the puppies all have a different look to them. They are not hypoallergenic and not an option for a home that needs a dog that won't shed. Based on an embark DNA test for one of the puppies, they are Shih Tzu, Lhasa Apso, Rat terrier, Poodle, and Pekingese. They are true mutts, the most precious little souls, and amazing well-rounded puppies.  The Queen litter has been in the same foster home since the day they were born and have been raised with dogs of all sizes from a small chihuahua mix to a 65lb husky. They have also met the cats in the home and have done great. These puppies have been exposed to many different sights, sounds and people in the very short 11 weeks that they have been alive. The puppies go to work with their foster mom daily, and constantly have people handling them. They are the most well-rounded group of puppies and as their foster mom has said, "this litter is probably the best litter I have fostered in the 10 years I've been with DPS." Here is a little write-up from the foster parents about each puppies' personality.  Bohemian Rhapsody "Bo" (M) is a total character and loves to run around and get all the other siblings to play with him. He knows how to get the party started and can go all day long. Bo is a total goofball and keeps us all laughing with his awesome goofy personality. When not rough housing with his siblings, Bo can be found napping on a dog bed or playing with a toy.  Freddie Mercury (M) is Mr. Independent and knows how to keep himself entertained for long periods of time. Freddie loves the company of his siblings and can be found wrestling with them but also likes to go off on his own and play by himself with a toy or bone, or just hang out and watch his siblings play from a distance.  We are the Champions "Champ" (M) is a total lover boy and is definitely a momma's boy. He loves to play with his siblings but is often wanting to be loved and cuddled by his foster mom. Champ is such a sweet little innocent soul just wanting to please his people and has the best puppy dog eyes around. He knows he has his foster parents wrapped around his tiny little paws. He is one of the favorite puppies at work and everyone just wants to cuddle him.  The puppies are only an option for those who have owned a dog in the last 3 years. That does not include living with a roommate's dog. Our youngest puppies require the most experience to make sure they become well rounded adults. These puppies already have a great start on becoming perfect little adults. If there are children in the home they will need to be over the age of 7.

Adoption Process
We require an application from anyone who is interested in adopting. Then we require a phone interview, followed by a meeting in person. Then if the animal is a match, we have a contract and our adoption fee which is $400.
