Doggie Protective Services

We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) animal rescue organization based in So. CA who has established chapters outside of the area to attempt to place more of the dogs that are dying in the shelters in So. CA. Many areas do not have small breed dogs and we transport and meet with potential adopters because So. CA is deluged in small breed dogs.

Meet Hostess: Ding Dong

Adoption Fee: $800 The Hostess Puppies are a litter of 3 month old Shih Tzu mixes who came to DPS at 5 weeks old as the result of an accidental litter and a Mama who decided she was finished with motherhood. This litter is 3 boys and 2 girls and they are all just as sweet as their names would suggest! We expect these puppies to remain under 15 pounds when they are fully grown, which means they are the perfect size to join in on all of life’s sweetest pleasures! The Hostess Puppies are not hypoallergenic so will not be an option for those with true allergies, but have lighter shedding coats that will require grooming.    The Hostess Puppies wake up around 7 AM when they hear the rest of the house starting their days. They go right outside to potty and are learning to head to the door when they need to use the bathroom. After they spend some time romping around, they head inside for breakfast before charging around for more playtime. They love to play outside when the weather is nice, but also appreciate indoor playtime with their piles of toys. They have a great cycle of nap-play-eat during the day like any good litter of puppies. Dinner is at 5 PM and then we spend some time snuggling and playing until it is time for bed!  Cupcake (F): Cupcake has the sweetest temperament wrapped up in a teeny little body. She loves her beauty sleep the most among her siblings and is frequently found curled up in her bed catching some rest as the play goes on around her. Don’t get us wrong, she loves to romp around with the best of them, but she also loves laying on her back as we scratch her belly until she falls asleep. When she is outside, she will play under the bushes and loves to lounge for as long as possible, even after her siblings have wandered back inside. Her sweet specialty? Puppy kisses!   Ding Dong (M): Ding Dong is the playful class clown of the litter. He is the largest of the bunch and has strong opinions about his cuddle and toy preferences. He loves to run around the yard, chasing tiny tennis balls or dragging around a little stick he has conquered. He is more of the sit-back and observe-the-play action of his siblings before hopping in on the chaos, but once he gets going he is hilarious to watch! Ding Dong is super smart and observant and always knows what is going on. He also LOVES to give kisses and promises to bring sweet puppy joy to his forever home!    Snoball (M): Snowball is a snuggle bug who adores his people and the kisses they smother him in! He loves nothing more than being in our presence, hanging out in the kitchen when we are cooking or doing chores, as long as he can be near us! He also loves to play with his siblings, romping around the yard and dragging around his toys, but he is the first to rush over for snuggles and kisses when he is ready for a nap. He immediately mastered the perfect puppy dog eye expression and knows how adorable he is, making it hard to resist giving him the world! This boy is just precious.    Twinkie (F): Twinkie is the perfect balance of independent and playful. She is happy playing in the yard with her siblings but is also happy to occupy herself when needed. She may be little, but she can hold her own with her bigger siblings. Twinkie is often found charging across the yard with a toy she has snatched from one of her bigger siblings, and it is always hilarious to watch her victory dances. Like her siblings, a little special one-on-one time is something she loves.  When she has enough she lets you know she’s ready to get back with her siblings to play. Twinkie is the perfect sweet and playful girl!   Zinger (M): Zinger is the entertainer of the group and his goofy energy brightens even the dreariest rainy day. He has such a sweet face which has melted many a heart in his time with us. He loves his toys and loves to drag them all together into a pile before he takes off running with his pick of the day. He can play happily for hours at a time, keeping himself occupied with ease. As the last puppy awake at bedtime or naptime, Zinger eagerly soaks up some extra snuggle time with us, laying on his back for tummy rubs until he falls asleep! Nothing better in the world!    The Hostess puppies are always eager to play with our resident dogs, a Frenchie and Shar Pei. When our dogs prefer to nap they are fine playing amongst themselves. All the puppies have done very well with house training and will potty outside when let out.  When they are indoors, we have potty pads that they use with few accidents.    The Hostess Puppies are only an option for homes who have owned a dog of their own in the last 5 years. Kids in the home should be over the age of 6.

Adoption Process
We require an application from anyone who is interested in adopting. Then we require a phone interview, followed by a meeting in person. Then if the animal is a match, we have a contract and our adoption fee which is $400.
