Meet *Lilac Rabbit

Meet the certified cutie Patootie Lilac Rabbit! Lilac is a 5 year old 12 lb Carin Terrier mix that came to us from Penninsula Humane Services. This adorable girl is so cool that she rocks a mohawk without even trying. She is so punk rock because she doesn’t’ even try to be punk rock.     When we take in fosters into our homes sometimes it can take a while for their true personality to shine. That is definitely the case with this girl. She came in nervous and timid however when she became comfortable showed her foster family that she is actually the energizing bunny and ready to GO GO GO.     This is what her foster family says about her;   First 3 days - Lilac has similar traits as an actual Lilac Rabbit. She’s sweet and docile and very loving once she gets passed the nervous stage. Her first day with us she would hide in the smallest places. Now that she’s been here for a few days she is warming up and spend more time with the rest of the family. She’s good with other dogs and didn’t show much of an interest in the cats at our vets office.   She loves her person and prefers knowing where she is at all times. Her foster mom often catches her in a deep stare (at her) as if she’s anticipating her going somewhere without her. She pays attention to every little noise she hears. EVERY LITTLE NOISE!! Most of the time she looks at everything and everyone as they pass the front window.   Lilac is very quiet in the kennel at night and for car rides. She eats her meals with no issues and she also enjoys treats and bully sticks. She’s starting to show an interest in squeaky toys but hasn’t found a favorite one yet. The leash scares her and her first instinct is to run so her foster family is taking this slow. We recommend older children due to her sensitive nature.   Day 4 in the foster home- “It has been four days since Lilac came to our home. Today she decided she loves to terrorize toys, dog beds and anything that will fit in her mouth. She’s a four legged zoomie in her terrible two’s!! We highly suggest getting her into a dog training class to enhance her personality. She will need someone who can give her the attention she needs and challenges to keep her occupied. She’s very cute and pretty happy but SHE NEEDS TO STAY BUSY!! She’s explored every inch of the backyard, the garage and the house. If you’re missing something she will find it   She doesn’t like to be told NO so we suggest a home that will be consistent. The positive is she is that motivated. We suggest a home without younger children. In Lilacs case the saying is true: “a tired dog is a happy dog”.   Overall Lilac is very healthy. She’s not on any long term meds at this time and we don’t anticipate she will be anytime soon. She had a grooming appointment with our amazing groomer and she is feeling her new look! .     If you are interested in this punk rock babe, send us an email to [email protected] If you are unable to adopt but want to help, ***PLEASE SHARE THIS POST***  GENERAL INFO:   Housebroken?: Yes, we think so Crate Trained?: Yes Leash Trained?: Yes Rides Well in Car?: Yes Non-Shedding?: No Good with cats?: Did not bother cats at vet clinic Good with dogs?: Yes Qualifies for Seniors for Seniors?: yes Umbrella of Hope does not have any strict rules on ages of children because all children are different, but our best approximation is that this animal would do best with children over the age of 12 Umbrella of Hope is an all-volunteer, donation-run, non-profit animal rescue based out of Pittsburg, CA that rescues animals from local shelters, places them in private foster homes, provides them with needed medical care and then finds them new homes.  Also, ask us about our seniors for seniors program, where we adopt animals 5 years or older to qualified homes with a $5 donation as an adoption fee. All animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, treated for parasites and given any additional treatments (dental work, bloodwork etc) as recommended by our vet.  Adoptions to veterans of the US Armed Services are ALWAYS free to thank you for your service.   We thank Well Pet Vet Clinic for providing most of our veterinary services and give a special thanks to volunteer photographers Tanya, Barbara, Kristy, Christine, Teressa and Natalie.
