Meet Happy

Happy is a 25-pound Australian Shepherd mix, approximately two years old. She earned her name because of the pure joy she displayed when she left the shelter and discovered the freedom of a yard in her foster home. Before being rescued, Happy was found as a starving stray with raw, possibly frostbitten paw pads and stickers tangled in her fur. She spent nearly a month at the shelter recovering, gaining strength, and putting on much-needed weight, though she could still benefit from a few more pounds. With a gentle and sweet nature, Happy has never shown aggression, though she can be overly eager when it comes to treats and needs guidance in taking them more gently. She is a stunning beauty with a long, luxurious coat and strikingly highlighted eyes, but she will require regular brushing to keep her fur from matting. Happy is naturally submissive and still a bit skittish, making her best suited for a patient adopter who can help build her confidence. She gets along well with other dogs and, while not tested with cats or farm animals, would likely do well with them. Happy has been learning to use a pet door to go outside but had some accidents in the beginning. She is not yet leash-trained, so a home with a fenced yard is essential. The ideal adopter would be someone who is home often to continue her training and help her feel secure. Because she is easily startled by sudden movements and loud noises, a home without small children is preferred, though she should do well with older, gentle children once she learns to take treats properly. Happy is spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $300. If you can provide a loving, forever home for this sweet girl, please apply at www.misfitsdogrescue.org.
