To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see HERE Age: 4 months (as of 9/1/2024) Weight: 17 pounds (as of 8/22/2024) Location: CT This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Lima Bean and her two siblings, Pinto and Lentil, were found dumped on a road near one of our rescue partner's farms. Our best guess is that they are hound mixes. Lima is the smallest of the three Bean pups. They had been living in an active foster home with an adult couple, three children (aged 9, 12, and 15), three dogs, and a cat. Lima and her siblings have been friendly and playful with everyone they meet. The cat and other small animals interest them, but they are easy to distract or redirect. Since arriving in RI, Lima has been in a foster home with three resident dogs and the two foster moms with weekly visits by their grown son. Lima loves to play chase and bitey-mouth and will bark happily when she is romping around with the resident dogs. She enjoys all kinds of toys and new adventures. But she is also happy to cuddle up with her people and have some quiet time. Lima’s foster family has brought her camping to their seasonal site and she has had a blast playing with the resident puppy the whole time! She even found the BIGGEST sticks to walk around with. She loves the fresh air and just being a dog! She hasn’t found a dog or person she doesn’t like! Everyone is her BEST friend! The puppies have just begun their house, crate, and leash training, and are making good progress. We recommend obedience training for all of our dogs, especially puppies, and you can learn the commands together while the puppy gains confidence. It's also fun! Lima is a gentle and affectionate girl, who will be a wonderful fit in a wide variety of living situations! Medical Note: This dog is being treated/has been treated for demodectic mange, a non-contagious skin condition. The dog has responded well to this treatment and is ready for adoption, though may still have some bald patches and/or thin fur in places. Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (eg, transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months after adoption for adults or until 18 months of age for puppies. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange and talk with your Adoption Counselor about this condition. Please check with your vet if you have any questions or concerns about this medical history. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: Adoption Application - SOS Animal Rescue League in Rhode Island (sosarl.org) **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
