Meet Acorn Squash *LOCAL*

To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application    HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see    HERE Age: 4 months (as of 9/1/2024) Weight: 10 lbs (as of 8/24/2024) Location: RI   This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped   The Squash pups can’t wait to meet you! These playful puppies are intelligent and very precious!  Meet the pretty girls – Summer, Patty Pan, Butter Nut, and Zucchini and the handsome boys – Acorn, Spaghetti, and Winter. We are thinking these little ones are a Rat Terrier mix. Acorn's foster mom says he's playful , sweet, gentle, and a little timid and reserved but is making progress with treats, patience, and encouragement. He loves toys and playing in the back yard & loves treats and bones. He is still building confidence and would do best in a home with older kids.  These are typical puppies with typical puppy behavior - like chewing on stuff, playing with each other, playing with toys, playing with people and just playing in general! They are playful with other dogs and kids and even seem ok with cats that they like to chase in playfulness. They love toys and are happy to chill with a ball when not playing with you!  The pups are pretty quiet, but you might hear them bark when playing. As the pups are so young, they haven’t started on potty, crate, and leash training but think they will pick up these skills quickly as they seem very smart.  All the Squash pups are eager to please, toy and treat motivated little squirts, so puppy training classes will be lots of fun! Acorn would love to find a forever family that has lots of time and patience to raise a puppy properly, and who has lots of extra time for loving and cuddles. If you are looking for a puppy, Acorn, or one of his littermates may be perfect for you! Fill out an application today and let him know that you'd love to have him join your family! Squash Pups’ story: Their pregnant mom was found as a stray. A loving family took her in where she had her litter. They are now living with a loving foster family and doing great! Medical Note:  This dog is being treated/has been treated for demodectic mange, a non-contagious skin condition. The dog has responded well to this treatment and is ready for adoption, though may still have some bald patches and/or thin fur in places.  Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (eg, transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months after adoption for adults or until 18 months of age for puppies.  Please see here for more information on demodectic mange and talk with your Adoption Counselor about this condition.  Please check with your vet if you have any questions or concerns about this medical history. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see  HERE  for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website:  Adoption Application - SOS Animal Rescue League in Rhode Island (sosarl.org)   **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
