Southern Comfort Animal Rescue

Southern Comfort Animal Rescue, Inc. is 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that rescues and rehomes abused, unwanted and abandoned companion animals.Southern Comfort was founded in 2001 in Savannah, Georgia, to provide shelter and find temporary foster or permanent homes for pets left behind when troops in nearby Ft. Stewart's 3rd Infantry Division shipped out to Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2006, the organization moved to Glenwood, Georgia. Southern Comfort fills a critical need in Wheeler County, which has no other rescues or animal control. We specialize in physical, social and emotional rehabilitation of our rescues. All animals are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and receive any and all medical treatment before being placed in carefully screened forever homes.Southern Comfort is a "no-kill" rescue and only euthanizes in cases of irremediable suffering or vicious and dangerous animals. We also work to raise public awareness of the plight of homeless animals and promote the benefits of adopting an animal in need through community outreach and education.

Meet Dixie

Dixie was chosen to be on our Freedom Flight vis FlyPups (www.FlyPups.org) from GA to NJ for our August 20 & 21st Adoption Event at Dogs & Cats Rule in Pennington, NJ.  If interest, please submit an application at www.SoCoRescue.com (no need to login).  Please no phone calls.  Dixie is currently in foster in NJ with another SoCo pup, Riley.  Her foster mom recently gave us an update.  "We love fostering Dixie!  She is a happy-go-lucky pup who is always ready to play.  She does great with our other foster pup, running and wrestling together.  We are working on crate training, house training and leashing training.  She does well in the crate overnight.  She also seems to be ok for some time on her own, sleeping or playing with toys.  Dixie is also super affectionte, loves to give kisses!" Dixie would be great with an indivual, couple or family with the patience and time to train a pup.  She would be good with another dog after a meet and greet.  Dixie and her litter came to SoCo together.  We received a call regarding another stray litter in rural GA.  Scott and our SoCo Team went to the property and located the mom & the puppy.  Unfortunately, they were living under an abandoned house and didn't want to come out.  Scott wasn't going to leave them there, so he rolled up his sleeves and crawled under the house to retrieve the mom and puppies.  The mom almost seemed relieved to have help. She continued to nurse the puppies until they were weaned onto solid food.  We have named the mom Indy, she looks like a golden retriever with big ears, she is nothing but extremely happy and friendly.  We believe the dad was a large bulldog that was always seen on the property.  So the puppies could range from 40-70lbs. If you miss out on adopting Dixie, then you've missed out on the opportunity to add unlimited amounts of love to your life! This little fun fur ball has so much love to give to someone and is ready to start giving it to you! Dixie has received all 3 of her first year puppy vaccines, been de-wormed on a regular basis and started on monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. The adopter must agree to having Dixie spayed once 6 months of age & provide verification to SoCo Rescue.

Adoption Process
we have an adoption questionnaire as well as a contract. The only fees we charge are those we are charged for the animal (vet fees)
