Meet French Toast
What better day to introduce our last brunch babe, or last brunch dude rather, than Sunday?! Everyone, meet French Toast Toast came from the same property as Momma Mimosa and her babies, all seized as a part of an ongoing cruelty case. Adult dogs were leaving this property absolutely emaciated, Toast only weighed 30 pounds and was utterly skin and bone. We didn’t have the space to take him when we took the girls, but we knew there was no way in hell we were leaving him behind at the shelter with his 30 days so close to coming to an end. Over the past few weeks we’ve been working to put the Swampie 15 on him (the side by side photos were taken exactly two weeks apart ), while simultaneously trying to earn his trust. Toast doesn’t have a mean bone in his body but will actively flinch if you try to pet or touch him in any way Whether he’s flinching because he’s never known affection, or because he’s only ever known the hard side of a hand, it breaks our hearts all the same. We hope that someday soon he’ll lean into our hands instead of away from them Toast has a long road ahead - he is high heartworm positive, has an equally high intestinal worm load, needs to be neutered, and obviously needs to maintain a healthy weight once we get him there. He is currently in boarding where he’s coming out of his shell more and more, but he really needs a foster home to have a safe space to trust, grow, and heal. Toast is a shell of the dog he is meant to be, and we desperately want him to know the love and comfort he’s been missing out on! We don’t know much about what Toast and the other dogs from this “home” endured, but we do know that they will never, EVER know neglect again. Welcome to the Swamp, Toastie. The happiest days of your life are on the way!

Adopt happiness. Our adoption process is unique in that we work with you every step of the way to ensure that we’re placing the right dog with the right family. First, we like to have a phone chat to get a feel for the kind of dog that you’re looking for. Next, we have you fill out a foster application. After that, we come to your house with a carload of dogs for you to choose from and have you foster the dog of your choosing for a week to make sure that it’s a good fit. The last step is to finalize the adoption. And then congrats, you’re a new member of the Swamp Haven family and your happy tail has just begun!
Our adoption fee is $300.
