Meet Ducky (VA)
Dapper young Ducky is one of 11 pups with the good fortune to be born within the safe, loving environment of a New Rattitude foster home back in early August. Already 11 lbs. at 12 weeks old, Ducky may grow to be bigger than his standard-sized 25-lb. rat terrier mom. Ducky is a charmer, who loves everyone he meets, both people and dogs, and he LOVES to play and wrestle his littermate who's currently being raised in the same home. He's always the first to pull on his leash in order to befriend every person or dog encountered on group walks. He also tries to play with the small adult terrier in his foster home, but she'll only deign to gently correct him for being too wild in the house. Ducky is working hard on house-training and walking on a leash. For the past month, he has lived in a busy neighborhood with lots of different people, young kids, and dogs as big as a German shepherd, loving them all as long as they want to play. He isn't sure what to do, however, if another dog doesn't want to play, so you may have to help him learn that skill. Ducky is also "talkative," using all of his puppy noises to protest anything he doesn't like (e.g., staying inside while his brother goes on a walk). He's trying hard to learn everything, but he'll need two things to grow up to be a well-rounded rattie. He'll need another dog to model good behavior for him and to boost his confidence in new situations. And he'll need patience, support, and commitment from you to continue his training and socialization. With these in place, he'll be one lucky Ducky, indeed!
