Southern Comfort Animal Rescue

Southern Comfort Animal Rescue, Inc. is 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that rescues and rehomes abused, unwanted and abandoned companion animals.Southern Comfort was founded in 2001 in Savannah, Georgia, to provide shelter and find temporary foster or permanent homes for pets left behind when troops in nearby Ft. Stewart's 3rd Infantry Division shipped out to Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2006, the organization moved to Glenwood, Georgia. Southern Comfort fills a critical need in Wheeler County, which has no other rescues or animal control. We specialize in physical, social and emotional rehabilitation of our rescues. All animals are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and receive any and all medical treatment before being placed in carefully screened forever homes.Southern Comfort is a "no-kill" rescue and only euthanizes in cases of irremediable suffering or vicious and dangerous animals. We also work to raise public awareness of the plight of homeless animals and promote the benefits of adopting an animal in need through community outreach and education.

Meet Mr Tibbs

***Mr. Tibbs is currently located at our rescue in GA. If his vetting is completed in time, he will be available for adoption at the Tractor Supply in Ringoes, NJ over the Feb 1-2 weekend. An application for his adoption should be submitted at socorescue.com (no need to register or login). Question pertaining to Mr. Tibbs and/or our adoption policy shold be addressed to [email protected]; please, no phone calls.***   Mr. Tibbs was found laying in a ditch just up the road from SoCo Rescue by a man who was passing through town. After checking with the homes in the area and not finding an owner, the man brought him to our rescue after a neighbor told him about our rescue.   Upon arrival. Mr. Tibbs was wet, scared and confused, but he surely did welcome our help and a warm, comfortable place to rest. His fur was badly matted, mainly on the underside, other than that, he seemed in pretty good condition. He immediately displayed his super-friendly personality. It's easy to tell that he was recently someone's beloved pet as he thrives with human contact. He also gets along excellent with other dogs, and would probably be fine around cats as well. He appears house trained, walks very well on a leash and loves to snuggle.   We're hopeful to have Mr. Tibbs fully vetted over the next week and will then know his heartworm status. We've just updated all of his annual vaccinations, administered de-wormers, flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. He does need to be groomed and his adopter should plan on having him regularly groomed. We think he may be approx 2 1/2-3 years old, but are not positive of his age.

Adoption Process
we have an adoption questionnaire as well as a contract. The only fees we charge are those we are charged for the animal (vet fees)
