Southern Comfort Animal Rescue

Southern Comfort Animal Rescue, Inc. is 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that rescues and rehomes abused, unwanted and abandoned companion animals.Southern Comfort was founded in 2001 in Savannah, Georgia, to provide shelter and find temporary foster or permanent homes for pets left behind when troops in nearby Ft. Stewart's 3rd Infantry Division shipped out to Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2006, the organization moved to Glenwood, Georgia. Southern Comfort fills a critical need in Wheeler County, which has no other rescues or animal control. We specialize in physical, social and emotional rehabilitation of our rescues. All animals are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and receive any and all medical treatment before being placed in carefully screened forever homes.Southern Comfort is a "no-kill" rescue and only euthanizes in cases of irremediable suffering or vicious and dangerous animals. We also work to raise public awareness of the plight of homeless animals and promote the benefits of adopting an animal in need through community outreach and education.

Meet Yona

Yona was chosen to be on our Freedom Flight vis FlyPups (www.FlyPups.org) from GA to NJ for our August 20 & 21st Adoption Event at Dogs & Cats Rule in Pennington, NJ.  If interest, please fillout our application at www.SoCoRescue.com (no need to login).  Please no phone calls.  We received a call regarding another stray litter in rural GA.  Scott and our SoCo Team went to the property and located the mom & the puppy.  Unfortunately, they were living under an abandoned house and didn't want to come out.  Scott wasn't going to leave them there, so he rolled up his sleeves and crawled under the house to retrieve the mom and puppies.  The mom almost seemed relieved to have help. She continued to nurse the puppies until they were weaned onto solid food.  We have named the mom Indy, she looks like a golden retriever with big ears, she is nothing but extremely happy and friendly.  We believe the dad was a large bulldog that was always seen on the property.  So the puppies could range from 40-70lbs. Yona's only quest in life is to become someone's best friend. And with his great personality, he should accomplish his goal rather quickly.  This litter has had 2 sets of puppys shots, been de-wormed on a regular basis and started on monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. The adopter must agree to having Yona neutered once 6 months of age & provide verification to SoCo Rescue.

Adoption Process
we have an adoption questionnaire as well as a contract. The only fees we charge are those we are charged for the animal (vet fees)

Look for other dogs for adoption!
