Southern Comfort Animal Rescue

Southern Comfort Animal Rescue, Inc. is 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that rescues and rehomes abused, unwanted and abandoned companion animals.Southern Comfort was founded in 2001 in Savannah, Georgia, to provide shelter and find temporary foster or permanent homes for pets left behind when troops in nearby Ft. Stewart's 3rd Infantry Division shipped out to Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2006, the organization moved to Glenwood, Georgia. Southern Comfort fills a critical need in Wheeler County, which has no other rescues or animal control. We specialize in physical, social and emotional rehabilitation of our rescues. All animals are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and receive any and all medical treatment before being placed in carefully screened forever homes.Southern Comfort is a "no-kill" rescue and only euthanizes in cases of irremediable suffering or vicious and dangerous animals. We also work to raise public awareness of the plight of homeless animals and promote the benefits of adopting an animal in need through community outreach and education.

Meet Beau

***ATTN: Courtesy Listing: Beau is currently at a foster home in the Eatonton, GA area, not located at our rescue. The information posted in his bio comes from his foster mom. He is available for adoption in Georgia and could be transported to the Ringoes, NJ area if an approved adopter in that area is found. An application for his adoption can be submitted at socorescue.com (no need to register or login). Questions pertaining to Beau and/or our adoption policy should be sent to [email protected]; please do not call the rescue's number.*** SoCo Rescue was contacted by a woman who had been fostering a few dogs for another rescue. When that rescue faced financial hardships, they closed their doors and simply abandoned their dogs who were in foster care. Not wanting to simply surrender the dogs in her care to the local high-kill shelter, the woman not only covered the cost of needed vet care herself, she made a commitment to find a home for the dogs. Being new to the entire dog rescue/fostering world, this very kind-hearted lady has found it very difficult to garner any interest in the dogs she has with the limited resources that she has. Upon hearing her story and seeing the dedication she's giving to the dogs in her care, we were more than happy to try and help place the dogs into loving, forever homes.  Beau is all about having fun! He loves to play fetch, romp and run around with other dogs and thoroughly enjoys the company of people of all ages. His very sweet and gentle personality makes him an ideal candidate for just about anyone looking to add a dog to their home.  Beau has been updated on all of his annual vaccinations, de-wormings and has been neutered. He's also been kept current on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives, even recently testing negative for heartworm. While Beau has displayed excellent house training ability at his foster home, he may need additional training once in a new home to familiarize himself with the change in routine.

Adoption Process
we have an adoption questionnaire as well as a contract. The only fees we charge are those we are charged for the animal (vet fees)
