Southern Comfort Animal Rescue

Southern Comfort Animal Rescue, Inc. is 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that rescues and rehomes abused, unwanted and abandoned companion animals.Southern Comfort was founded in 2001 in Savannah, Georgia, to provide shelter and find temporary foster or permanent homes for pets left behind when troops in nearby Ft. Stewart's 3rd Infantry Division shipped out to Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2006, the organization moved to Glenwood, Georgia. Southern Comfort fills a critical need in Wheeler County, which has no other rescues or animal control. We specialize in physical, social and emotional rehabilitation of our rescues. All animals are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and receive any and all medical treatment before being placed in carefully screened forever homes.Southern Comfort is a "no-kill" rescue and only euthanizes in cases of irremediable suffering or vicious and dangerous animals. We also work to raise public awareness of the plight of homeless animals and promote the benefits of adopting an animal in need through community outreach and education.

Meet Ciara

***Ciara will be available for adoption at the Tractor Supply in Ringoes, NJ over the March 29-30 weekend. An application for her adoption can be submitted at socorescue.com (no need to register or login). Questions about Ciara and/or our adoption policy should be sent to [email protected]; please do not call the rescue's number.*** Ciara and her five littermates came to our rescue as owner surrenders. As a requirement of us accepting these pups, the owner agreed to have the mom spay and was able to do so through a grant made available through Fix GA Pets. We were told that the mom was a Border Collie mix, but we're not positive of their breed. Ciara's start to life was pretty rough. She suffered some sort of injury that left her with two large raw spots on her back and also had an eye issue (Entropion). Her wounds have been treated but she's not yet regrown all of her fur. Her case of Entropion has also corrected itself and while she is able to see, she may have life-long vision problems. Despite her afflictions, Ciara is an extremely loving and friendly pup who plays very well with other pups. She is well-socialized and bonds very quickly with people. Ciara will have received 2/3 of her first year "puppy" vaccines with her final round due on April 14th. She's also been de-wormed at proper intervals and started on their monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. She'll need to receive her rabies vaccination after the age of 12 weeks. Her adopter must agree to having Ciara spay once she reaches 6 months of age and provide verification of such to our rescue. Ciara will require all of her basic training.

Adoption Process
we have an adoption questionnaire as well as a contract. The only fees we charge are those we are charged for the animal (vet fees)
