Southern Comfort Animal Rescue

Southern Comfort Animal Rescue, Inc. is 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that rescues and rehomes abused, unwanted and abandoned companion animals.Southern Comfort was founded in 2001 in Savannah, Georgia, to provide shelter and find temporary foster or permanent homes for pets left behind when troops in nearby Ft. Stewart's 3rd Infantry Division shipped out to Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2006, the organization moved to Glenwood, Georgia. Southern Comfort fills a critical need in Wheeler County, which has no other rescues or animal control. We specialize in physical, social and emotional rehabilitation of our rescues. All animals are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and receive any and all medical treatment before being placed in carefully screened forever homes.Southern Comfort is a "no-kill" rescue and only euthanizes in cases of irremediable suffering or vicious and dangerous animals. We also work to raise public awareness of the plight of homeless animals and promote the benefits of adopting an animal in need through community outreach and education.

Meet Tex

***Tex is currently located at our rescue in GA. He is scheduled to be available for adoption at the Tractor Supply in Ringoes, NJ over the Feb. 1-2 weekend. An application for his adoption should be completed at  socorescue.com  (no need to register or login). Questions pertaining to Tex and/or our adoption policy should be addressed to  [email protected] ; please, no phone calls.***   While a man was working on his car, he turned around to find a small, young puppy standing behind him. There were no other dogs in the area, only this little black ball of fur with hopeful eyes starring up at him. Being that the man lives isolated from neighbors, it's most likely that someone abandoned the pup at the man's house. The local animal control sent the man our way as they could not take the puppy in.    Tex immediately took to anyone and everyone who interacted with him. He's a natural "people-dog" as he loves his time spent playing with his human counterparts. Tex seems to have a purpose in life and that's to find and become the best friend to someone who truly needs him. There is no doubt that he will become very, very special to some lucky person.    Tex has been started on his required first year vaccinations, de-wormings and other such care. He will require additional vaccinations and such, which one of our SoCo Team members will happy to discuss with you. His adopter must agree to having Tex neutered once he reaches 6 months of age and providing verification of such to our rescue. He should receive his rabies vaccination after 12 weeks of age. He will require all of his basic gtraining, but seems to be highly intelligent and should be a fast learner. We're not quite sure what his breed mix is, but we anticipate that he'll be in the 30-40lb range once fully grown.

Adoption Process
we have an adoption questionnaire as well as a contract. The only fees we charge are those we are charged for the animal (vet fees)
