Southern Comfort Animal Rescue

Southern Comfort Animal Rescue, Inc. is 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that rescues and rehomes abused, unwanted and abandoned companion animals.Southern Comfort was founded in 2001 in Savannah, Georgia, to provide shelter and find temporary foster or permanent homes for pets left behind when troops in nearby Ft. Stewart's 3rd Infantry Division shipped out to Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2006, the organization moved to Glenwood, Georgia. Southern Comfort fills a critical need in Wheeler County, which has no other rescues or animal control. We specialize in physical, social and emotional rehabilitation of our rescues. All animals are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and receive any and all medical treatment before being placed in carefully screened forever homes.Southern Comfort is a "no-kill" rescue and only euthanizes in cases of irremediable suffering or vicious and dangerous animals. We also work to raise public awareness of the plight of homeless animals and promote the benefits of adopting an animal in need through community outreach and education.

Meet Kendall

***Kendall is in a foster home in PA.  Questions about Kendall or our adoption process should be sent to [email protected]. Applications can be submitted at socorescue.com or by clicking on the following link: https://www.socorescue.com/forms/form?formid=1628 We just got an update from Kendall's foster mom:  "We love having Kendall in our home.  She is the perfect house guest, no accidents, plays well with our dog and loves her crate even though she has full run of the house!  Kendall loves to play with our dog and her toys.  The dogs eat right next to each other, no signs of food aggression.  Kendall can bet timid at first when meeting new people but warms up quickly.  We think Kendall would be a great family dog, good with everyone and so much fun.  She is the perfect size and has a great personality!  She has come a long way on her journey and is really ready for her forever true home." Kendall's mom was once a feral dog who took up residence at a woman's home. For months the mom would eat, sleep and play with the other dogs at the woman's home. While the woman was sometimes able to catch this dog, keeping her contained or finding a safe place for her to go proved to be much harder. Eventually we were able to provide a space for this dog at our rescue. Shortly after her arrival, we discovered that this feral girl was pregnant and on Aug 26, she delivered 9 puppies, two of them stillborn. Despite her mom's apprehension of people, Kendall loves her time spent playing with her human counterparts. She always comes running when she sees our staff approaching her kennel and loves curling up into their laps. Full of puppy play, Kendall will require some basic training that should lead to her becoming a great member of your family.  Kendall is spayed and has received all three of her first year "puppy" vaccines, been de-wormed multiple times and has been started on her monthly preventatives.

Adoption Process
we have an adoption questionnaire as well as a contract. The only fees we charge are those we are charged for the animal (vet fees)
