Southern Comfort Animal Rescue

Southern Comfort Animal Rescue, Inc. is 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that rescues and rehomes abused, unwanted and abandoned companion animals.Southern Comfort was founded in 2001 in Savannah, Georgia, to provide shelter and find temporary foster or permanent homes for pets left behind when troops in nearby Ft. Stewart's 3rd Infantry Division shipped out to Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2006, the organization moved to Glenwood, Georgia. Southern Comfort fills a critical need in Wheeler County, which has no other rescues or animal control. We specialize in physical, social and emotional rehabilitation of our rescues. All animals are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and receive any and all medical treatment before being placed in carefully screened forever homes.Southern Comfort is a "no-kill" rescue and only euthanizes in cases of irremediable suffering or vicious and dangerous animals. We also work to raise public awareness of the plight of homeless animals and promote the benefits of adopting an animal in need through community outreach and education.

Meet Chester

Chester is being fostered in NJ. If interested please fillout our Application to be pre-approved.  Go to www.SoCoRescue.com (no need to login).  Please no phone calls.   A family contacted us seeking help in re-homing some of the dogs they had. At the time we didn't have space available to take in the dogs but did provide them with dog food, vaccines and de-wormers for the puppies and adult dogs at their home. We also advised them to keep all unaltered dogs separated and requested pictures and information about each dog so we could then get them posted for adoption. While we did receive a few pics, most were unclear or just showed a group of dogs, leaving us unable to determine who was who. Our request for better pictures or for the family to bring them to us so we could take pictures was not followed, neither was the instructions to separate their unaltered dogs. That led to two more of their dogs becoming pregnant and more puppies needing to be re-homed.   The litter from which Chester included six puppies who were 5 weeks of age. All of the pups from this litter were loaded with worms and two of the pups appeared lethargic and not to be feeling very well when we took them in. Right after we started their de-worming process, the two sickly pups passed away but Chester and his remaining siblings all made a full recovery and are now doing great.   Other than one of the pups in this litter looking slightly different than the rest, they all have the same basic personality. Each is very friendly, playful and eager to interact with humans. Chester and his siblings will all make great additions to any home, even a home that has young children as long as the children know ow to properly treat and handle a young pup. Chester will have received 2 of his   first year puppy vaccinations and their rabies vaccination prior to being adopted. Their adopter should consult with their vet concerning the third and any other recommended vaccines. They have already been de-wormed and treated against parasites at proper intervals and also started on their monthly preventatives. An adopter must agree to having the pup spay/neutered once the pup reaches 6 months of age and provide verification of such to our rescue.

Adoption Process
we have an adoption questionnaire as well as a contract. The only fees we charge are those we are charged for the animal (vet fees)
