Southern Comfort Animal Rescue

Southern Comfort Animal Rescue, Inc. is 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that rescues and rehomes abused, unwanted and abandoned companion animals.Southern Comfort was founded in 2001 in Savannah, Georgia, to provide shelter and find temporary foster or permanent homes for pets left behind when troops in nearby Ft. Stewart's 3rd Infantry Division shipped out to Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2006, the organization moved to Glenwood, Georgia. Southern Comfort fills a critical need in Wheeler County, which has no other rescues or animal control. We specialize in physical, social and emotional rehabilitation of our rescues. All animals are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and receive any and all medical treatment before being placed in carefully screened forever homes.Southern Comfort is a "no-kill" rescue and only euthanizes in cases of irremediable suffering or vicious and dangerous animals. We also work to raise public awareness of the plight of homeless animals and promote the benefits of adopting an animal in need through community outreach and education.

Meet Stella

***Stella is currently located at our shelter in Georgia but also available for adoption in the New Jersey and surrounding areas. To apply for the adoption of Stella, please submit an application at socorescue.com; if approved to adopt Stella, a Soo Rescue team member will contact you ASAP. Questions about Stella and/or our adoption policy should be directed to [email protected]. Please do not call the shelter.*** Stella and her two sisters came to our rescue after their former owners surrendered them to us. The owners were what is known as "backyard" breeders, those who illegally and without a license bred and sell puppies. This family only bred Bulldog puppies and were thought to be selling them to known dog fighters. In January 2022, the same family surrendered a litter of 6 Bulldog puppies that had contracted parvo. We were able to save four of the six. While Stella never displayed any signs of having parvo, her two sisters did and, unfortunately, one of her sisters passed away. Stella and her remaining sister, Sadie, are now in excellent health and thriving. Stella is a very playful and friendly pup. She and her sister play very well together but we do have to separate them when they eat. Our staff is working on ending their food aggression towards each other and this should be something that can be easily corrected. Other than that typical puppy behavior, Stella is an ideal and near perfect pup. She will grow to be a large dog who will need ample room to run and play. Stella has received all of her first year "puppy" vaccinations, been de-wormed and treated against parasites. She's also been started on her monthly preventatives. Her adopter will agree to having Stella spay once she reaches 6 months of age and provide proof of such to our rescue. She will require all of her basic training. Applications for Stella's adoption can be submitted at socorescue.com

Adoption Process
we have an adoption questionnaire as well as a contract. The only fees we charge are those we are charged for the animal (vet fees)
