Southern Comfort Animal Rescue

Southern Comfort Animal Rescue, Inc. is 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that rescues and rehomes abused, unwanted and abandoned companion animals.Southern Comfort was founded in 2001 in Savannah, Georgia, to provide shelter and find temporary foster or permanent homes for pets left behind when troops in nearby Ft. Stewart's 3rd Infantry Division shipped out to Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2006, the organization moved to Glenwood, Georgia. Southern Comfort fills a critical need in Wheeler County, which has no other rescues or animal control. We specialize in physical, social and emotional rehabilitation of our rescues. All animals are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and receive any and all medical treatment before being placed in carefully screened forever homes.Southern Comfort is a "no-kill" rescue and only euthanizes in cases of irremediable suffering or vicious and dangerous animals. We also work to raise public awareness of the plight of homeless animals and promote the benefits of adopting an animal in need through community outreach and education.

Meet Diesel

***Diesel is currently located t our rescue in Georgia but cn be transported to New Jersey for adoption. An application for his adoption should be submitted at socorescue.com (no need to register or login). Questions about Diesel and/or our adoption policy should be sent to [email protected]; please do not call the shelter's number.*** Diesel and his siblings came to our rescue as owner surrenders. His former owner was going through a very rough patch in life and knew it was best to focus on herself and let her dogs go. Be it due to the unjust stigma of Bulldogs or whatever the reason, Diesel has remained at our rescue for a little over two years. During that time Diesel has remained as friendly and playful as ever, being very patient as he knows that his new home is out there. Diesel loves interacting with people, getting belly rubs and playing with his toys. He's also very smart, a quick learner and would do best in a home with ample room to run and exercise. Diesel has gotten along with other dogs but we would require a "meet-n-greet" with any other dog(s) that Diesel would share the home with prior to the adoption. Diesel has been neutered, kept up-to-date with his annual vaccinations, de-wormings and other such vet care. He's also been on a monthly heartworm preventative and recently tested negative for heartworms. He will require additional house training.

Adoption Process
we have an adoption questionnaire as well as a contract. The only fees we charge are those we are charged for the animal (vet fees)
