Southern Comfort Animal Rescue

Southern Comfort Animal Rescue, Inc. is 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that rescues and rehomes abused, unwanted and abandoned companion animals.Southern Comfort was founded in 2001 in Savannah, Georgia, to provide shelter and find temporary foster or permanent homes for pets left behind when troops in nearby Ft. Stewart's 3rd Infantry Division shipped out to Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2006, the organization moved to Glenwood, Georgia. Southern Comfort fills a critical need in Wheeler County, which has no other rescues or animal control. We specialize in physical, social and emotional rehabilitation of our rescues. All animals are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and receive any and all medical treatment before being placed in carefully screened forever homes.Southern Comfort is a "no-kill" rescue and only euthanizes in cases of irremediable suffering or vicious and dangerous animals. We also work to raise public awareness of the plight of homeless animals and promote the benefits of adopting an animal in need through community outreach and education.

Meet Snickerdoodle, aka Doodle.

***Snickerdoodle will be available for adoption at Tractor Supply in Ringoes, NJ over the Nov 16-17 weekend. An application for his adoption can be submitted at socorescue.com (no need to Register or Login). Questions concerning Snickerdoodle nd/or our adoption policy should be sent to [email protected]; please do not call the rescue's phone number*** Snickerdoodle, aka 'Doodle", was found as a stray shortly after Helene hit our area. He was skinny, scared and very hungry. A search for his possible owner yielded no positive results and we did not detect a microchip.  It was easy to tell that Doodle had been someone's dog as he displayed being house trained and also responded to commands of "sit" and "shake". He also seemed to be crate trained. It took Doodle about two days to become comfortable in his new surroundings and once he did, he proved to us exactly how friendly he was. He's played very well with other dogs and simply loves all of the attention that he received from our staff. He does have a lot of energy and would do best in a home that provided him with lots of room to run and play. With continued training, he will make an excellent family companion. Doodle has now been neutered, fully vaccinated and de-wormed. He's also been started on his monthly flea/tick and heat worm preventatives, even testing negative for heartworms. While he has shown house training experience, Doodle may need a refresher course once in a new home.

Adoption Process
we have an adoption questionnaire as well as a contract. The only fees we charge are those we are charged for the animal (vet fees)
