Meet Thorne
Thorne is a 3 ½ year old male German Shepherd mix named after a dragon. He weighs about 80lbs, has been fixed and has been in one home since he was rescued. I have had him since he was 3-4 months old. Thorne was found wandering an empty parking lot as a puppy. He had mange and scabs but was taken in by a rescue from which I adopted him. He is an incredibly smart dog. Loyal, mostly obedient and house trained. In his ideal world he would be a lap dog that gets to sleep in the bed. He LOVES affection and lets you know when he wants it. He is also very vocal. Why am I seeking a home you ask? Thorne has gotten into many fights with my other dog. I have 3 dogs that I rescued when they were all puppies. About a year ago he and my other male dog began fighting. Thorne is always the aggressor and we have been unable to find the exact trigger. I have spent thousands on training, taken him to vets, and sent both my males off to bond for two weeks, with a trainer, to try and resolve the issues. His aggression towards my other dogs might be predatory according to the latest trainer. I do not have the resources to keep training and honestly I think it is unfair to my other two dogs to keep trying at this point. I keep them separated, but that is not sustainable for us. Thorne could be the most loyal and loving dog you ever had, but please know his aggression is real and he needs firm boundaries. He has been trained on E-Collars and responds very well to light vibration/stimulus. His last trainer has said Thorne is a bite risk. While he has never bitten me or my husband, he did lunge at a stranger when he was 12 months old. Thorne was socialized as a puppy but he did already have food aggression when I rescued him. While the food aggression is mostly gone (occasional flare ups) I do wonder if his aggression stems from his time on the streets as a puppy. I believe he is a good dog but needs a firmer hand than I am able to provide. If I didn't have the other two dogs, I would keep him. But my home isn’t what’s best for him. He needs to be a single dog, in a home, without kids. Ideally with someone who has experience with training dogs like him. Below is a list of commands and words he knows: Yes - marker to indicate he did something correct Touch - if you hold up two fingers he will boop them lovingly with his nose Sit - he’s an excellent sitter Lay down - the command he is most responsive to Go potty - He’ll go pee on the nearest branch Wait - His patience could use further work but he will leave food alone What is that? - our version of “leave it” Go to your house - he promptly goes to his crate Go say hi - reassurance the scary thing is ok Shake - he’ll give you a firm one Other paw - shake but with the opposite paw Go - go somewhere else Food - his favorite word Dinner - Second favorite word Treats - third favorite word Good boy - praise makes him happy Water - he likes to drink a lot and will let you know when the bowl is empty Outside - Not the inside Inside - not the outside His favorite things: Getting pets Balls and ropes (he is not very active but loves fetch) Anything fluffy and soft To follow you around the house Sunshine Sitting on your feet Vacuum hoses Brushes Dislikes: Nail trimmings (we do muzzle him when we trim them) Other dogs Not being the center of attention Lettuce Scary new places Smoke when you burn what your cooking **** Breed: German Shepherd Mix **** Pet Link: https://www.nokillnetwork.org/adoption/pet_detail.php?petid=2171745&flag=1
